Address Sriharikota Range Andhra Pradesh 524124 Telephone Fax The Sriharikota Launching Range is developed into the most important center, with test, assembly and launch facilities for large multi-stage rockets and satellite launchers, and tracking, telemetry and tele-command stations for Indian spacecraft. It is situated in the Sriharikota Island, on India's east coast, about 62 miles (100km) north of Madras at 13°47' North and 80°15' East. Sriharikota, is an island in the Nellore District of Andhra Pradesh State, lies along the east of Pulicat Lake and is reached by road from Madras. Prior to its acquisition for ISRO by the Indian Government, its was a firewood plantation of Eucalyptus and Casuarina trees. This island is affected by both south-westerly and north-easterly monsoons, but heavy rains come only in October and November. Thus many clear days are available for out-door static tests and launchings. VSSC - Vikram Sarabhai Space Center Trivandrum's Liquid Propulsion Systems Center (LPSC) operates as a separate entity. TERLS is now a United Nations sponsored station located on the sandy coast of the Arabian Sea. The location of Thumba (8°32'34" N, 76°51'32" E) is ideal for the furtherance of low-altitude, upper-atmosphere and ionosphere studies which are of special importance in the region of the magnetic equator (just north of Thumba). Because of this factor, with the assistance and co-operation of France, the USA and Russia, TERLS has become an international launch site for sounding rockets.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. NASAs coastal Florida spaceport and other agency centers across the nation reopened Thursday, but it wasnt exactly business as usual in the wake of terrorist attacks in New York and Washington D.C. Two days after hijacked airliners crashed into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, federal government and contractor employees returned to work amid tight security at the agencys Washington, D.C., headquarters and 10 field centers around the nation. "Were all open for business," said NASA spokesman Brian Dunbar. "But certainly security is heightened." Here at Kennedy Space Center, some 12,000 people faced hour-long traffic jams at perimeter gates to the coastal spaceport, a restricted federal enclave that covers 140,000 acres (56,000 hectares). Cars, trucks and vans were backed up for 1.6 miles (2.5 kilometers) outside the main gate to the space center, which is the homeport to NASAs $8 billion space shuttle fleet.

First experiments from NASA Commercial Space Centers get started on International Space Station
Three new commercial experiments are getting started on the International Space Station, marking a major milestone for NASA's Commercial Space Centers - 17 centers across the United States that help industry conduct space experiments. The experiments were launched into orbit on April 19 on the Space Shuttle Endeavor on the STS-100 mission, Space Station Flight 6A. The Space Station Expedition Two crew are setting up the three commercial payloads and beginning experiments. These experiments will remain on board the Station until the end of Expedition Two, at the end of July, when the Space Shuttle Discovery will return them to Earth. The three experiments slated for Space Station Expedition Two explore areas of the fast-growing fields of biotechnology and agriculture. One experiment is growing plants aboard the Space Station. Another examines why antibiotic production by microbes is enhanced in microgravity. A third is testing a new piece of equipment for crystallizing more than 1,000 biological samples. NASA's commercial partners have been busy preparing for the flight. During the mission, some of them will work in new remote control centers set up with NASA's help. From these ground control centers, students, teachers and industry partners will be able to communicate with the crew and send commands to their experiments on the Space Station 233 miles above Earth. Investigators at these telescience centers can talk with the crew and send experiment commands through NASA's Payload Operations Center at the Marshall Center.

Russia's Leading Space Centers Agree On Cooperation
On Monday the Khrunichev State Scientific-Industrial Center has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Space Communication state-run company.
"It is a major event for us", said Space Communication chief Antonyuk at a briefing. "Now we have a reliable partner for renewing the Russian group of satellites on the basis of Russian-made spacecraft with the use of efficient means of delivery made by the Khrunichev Center. They are light carrier rockets Rokot, Angara-1.1, Angara-1.2, Angara-A5 and new heavy rockets Proton-M", said Antonyuk.
Khrunichev Center general director Alexander Medvedev said that "this long-term agreement allows us to develop a new direction family of light rockets for commercial uses". As soon as in 2003 such a rocket will put into orbit the first light 600-kilogramme communication satellite of a new generation. Use of light rockets for these ends will make much cheaper the putting of satellites into geostationary orbits from the launching pad of the Russian cosmodrome Plesetsk, said Medvedev. Earlier, all such launches were only made from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
