@import url(/css/core.css); State and Federal Requirements Search through our directory of State Departments of Education , which offers contact information and Web links to help you find information about licensure, alternative routes to teacher certification, and financial aid. State Department of Education Requirements Although all states must comply with the federal provision of No Child Left Behind, many states have programs for mid-career changers individuals who already have a bachelor's degree—that are alternatives to the traditional route to teacher certification. Just as teacher certification requirements differ from state to state, so do alternative certification program offerings. In the State Departments of Education directory, RNT provides resources developed by the National Center for Alternative Certification: a coded list of alternative certification programs offered in each state, and an alternative licensure key that describes details about the types of programs offered by each state.
As this information about alternative certification is subject to change, you will still want to call for the most up-to-date information. Some states offer this information online and others will mail you a packet about state-approved alternative certification programs and requirements.

http://sdgrass.org/
Every day people write their record on the land and read the record left by others. We shape the land, and the land shapes us. The South Dakota Grassland Coalition is a non-profit organization of individuals, private organizations, and local, state and federal entities. Our vision is a partnership of people working to voluntarily improve grasslands for the long term needs of the resource and its populations. Given the appropriate tools and training, grassland managers will be better prepared to make cost-effective and environmentally sound management decisions. We are addressing the future of private grassland in South Dakota by:
  • Promoting voluntary action and respect of property rights. Strengthening partnerships between grassland managers and others who support the objectives of the Coalition. Encouraging voluntary diversification. Increasing economic, social, and environmental stability on grazing lands. Closing the gap between the availability of knowledge and its application.

"Knowledge of Canada or the United States is the best way to gain insight into the other North American country. Nations can be understood only in comparative perspective. And the more similar the units being compared, the more possible it should be to isolate the factors responsible for differences between them. Looking intensively at Canada and the United States sheds lights on both of them." Seymour Martin Lipset

Making Middle Grades Work
The Southern Regional Education Board's middle grades initiative is designed to help states, districts and schools look at what they expect, what they teach and how they teach young adolescents to prepare for success in further education. Too many students leave the middle grades unprepared to take advantage of all that high school can offer and unable to be successful in career opportunities after high school. Making Middle Grades Work is a network of schools, districts and states committed to implementing 10 essential elements in a comprehensive improvement framework. The MMGW brochure details the essential elements and other components of the framework. The elements focus on a rigorous and challenging academic core curriculum for all students and on the teaching and learning conditions that support continuous improvement in student achievement. With the support of the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation, SREB provides member states and schools with technical assistance, publications, assessments and networking services. As school sites identify the help they need to implement the framework, SREB links them to specific professional development resources. A summer conference enables sites to learn what works with other middle grades and high schools and to plan further actions to improve student achievement. Please join our listserv to receive periodic e-mail messages about MMGW activities.
