State Board of Education Regulation (1992) provides various options for the delivery of instruction in grades 9-12, although students are not explicitly required to take health in order to graduate. Funded by the Second Title VI-A Grant Purpose: The consortium was founded five years ago by 10 of the sixteen technical colleges in South Carolina to provide a broad framework within which its members will promote activities, programs and resources to increase international awareness and opportunities for their constituents through faculty/staff development, curriculum development, student activities/programs, and community outreach and partnerships. Membership has expanded to include 14 of the technical colleges. Rationale: Within recent years, global interdependence has become increasingly obvious. Isolated nations no longer exist, but are now influenced by an international network of closely related economic, cultural and environmental concerns. More than at any point in history, individuals around the world are affected by the same forces, the same problems, the same changes. While this environment is exhilarating, many Americans do not have the background to comprehend and function effectively in this extraordinary new world. Started in 1999 as part of Governor Jim Hodges' Institute on Reading, the program continues to flourish in several evolving strands. In the intitial 3-year strand, over 300 study group teams led by literacy coaches met bimonthly to conduct systematic inquiry into reading research and practice. Coaches worked in participating schools to help teachers make connections between what they were learning and their teaching. Regional coaches, a state department liaison and a university faculty member provided ongoing support. This Initiative was a three-way partnership among the South Carolina State Department of Education, the National Council of Teachers of English, and the University of South Carolina. An OERI research grant is funding a 3-year analysis of the project's impact.

Since the network is interactive, students and faculty can see and talk to each other in "real" time as if the distant persons are in the same room. By the end of 1998, connected educational sites on the network will increase to over 25. The network's signals are transmitted over land-based, copper wire ("T-l") technology. One half of the T-1 network is used for data transmission via frame-relay technology, with the other half for video transmission.

Application (pdf) Wound Care Specialty Course Course Overview The course prepares the graduate of the course to provide acute and rehabilitative care for persons with select disorders of the integumentary system such as acute/chronic wounds, pressure necrosis, vascular ulcers, diabetic ulcers, fistulae and those with percutaneous drains or tubes. Graduation from the course is based upon satisfactory completion of two written examinations, a teaching project, written role implementation plan, critique of a research study and satisfactory performance in the clinical area.
