The Bottom Line A parent of a special needs child needs to grieve and needs support and a listening ear regardless of how hard it is to approach the subject.
My 11 Year old Autistic son is starting to hit puberty. This is very scary to both of us! Brandon is high functioning enough to know that he is different and often rejected. But is Autistic enough that he cannot do anything about his social shortcomings. He is growing angry and bitter from the cruelness that he encounters at school and amoung the general public.
As a mom it KILLS me to see him ridiculed and suffering. I have tried so hard to protect him and shelter him, but the older he gets, the harder it becomes. At his IEP meeting at school the other day, I was forced to begin to face a very different future then I had planned for my darling boy.
We discussed the fact that he will probably never get a High school diploma, but rather a certificate of completion ( of 12 years of school). We started to look at possible placements in an independent living facility. Brandon will never drive, he will likely never marry and have children.
At this point he cannot even tie his shoes and dress himself correctly. I am trying to accept his limitations and be realistic about his future, but it is SO hard.

Answer: As you are aware, N.C.P.E.D.P. had instituted its Postgraduate/Professional Scholarship Scheme in 1998 for students with disabilities to enable them to pursue higher studies at the postgraduate / doctoral levels. Answer: Inclusive education changes attitudes. It enables children with special needs to reach their potential and live with equality and dignity. It is education which equips a child to meet the challenges of life. Children with disability need this all the more to supplement their different talents for making them useful members of society. Depending upon the physical and mental status of the student, the type of education required varies as: Regular: As currently being taught in schools (up to Senior Secondary level).
Special: For certain special categories of students (with disability) with specific facilities.
    Integrated:
Inclusive: A regular school to accommodate all children, regardless of their physical, intellectual, social, emotional or other conditions. The school adapts itsey to accommodate disabled students. The school adapts itself to accommodate disabled students. There is no specific percentage of number in this set up. A small percentage is of those with special needs. This provides the means to improve quality of life. Arrangements for barrier-free environment and other required material are made in the regular set up for children with special needs, and children with disabilities are treated as equal partners in the community.

Parents hope a home-schooling cooperative at Carolina Pediatric Therapy in Rock Hill would give their children a place to learn and heal. Parents would help out in the classroom to reduce costs and apply for government grants to cover remaining costs. The school would accept payment from both private insurance and Medicaid.
