TAX BULLETIN
Often times, people with disabilities and their families are allowed state and federal tax credits and tax deductions. TAX BULLETIN offers limited, general information about possible credits and deductions.
For comprehensive information about tax laws that may apply to your particular circumstances, consult an accountant or the Internal Revenue Service.
The following deductions and credits may be available to families of people with disabilities. It's important to remember that a tax deduction is subtracted from income before it's taxed, while a tax credit is subtracted from taxes owed.
STATE TAX DEDUCTIONS
Special Needs Adoption (line 53) Taxpayers receive a $2,000 deduction, if they provide chief support for a dependent, adopted child with special needs who is under age 18 at the time of adoption.

Vouchers fail as House passes special education bill
Story Tools RELATED Key provisions in the special education bill HR 1350 WASHINGTON (AP) A Republican-led push to let parents send disabled children to private school with government money failed Wednesday as the House passed legislation renewing a 28-year-old law governing special education. Democrats said the school choice proposals amounted to a dangerous expansion of the voucher program. The proposals were a major point of contention in the debate over reauthorization of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The bill passed by a 251-171 vote. One plan would have enticed states to create private school options so parents could use public money for tuition and transportation. A second proposal was intended to give certificates of public dollars about $1,400 to disabled children already enrolled in private schools so they could get extra services. Supporters said that amounts to the per-student federal dollars that school districts receive for special education. Almost every Democrat and about one-fifth of Republicans joined to reject the ideas.

SOUTH CAROLINA CITIZENS FOR LIFE STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
South Carolina Citizens for Life, Inc., is a non-profit, single issue, right-to-life organization devoted to restoring legal personhood to the unborn and to protecting innocent human life by eliminating abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia from our society. SCCL is a state affiliate of the National Right to Life Committee, the nation's largest single-issue right-to-life organization. Through the legal and peaceful means of education, legislation, and political action, we work to restore the right to life of the pre-born and to protect the lives of medically vulnerable individuals, including elderly, disabled, mentally ill, chronically ill, and terminally ill persons. Our membership is open to anyone who supports our purpose and mission regardless of race, creed, national origin, or political affiliation. South Carolina Citizens for Life presents fully detailed and factual information to the public on the basic life issues of abortion, infanticide and euthanasia and their related subjects, such as fetal tissue and human embryo research, pro-life free speech, and the rights of terminally ill, mentally retarded, disabled and aged persons who have special needs.
The corporation does this by: Developing and maintaining educational programs factually depicting the growth and development of the unborn child. These programs are age-appropriate for use in schools as well as adult programs for use by colleges, universities, churches, civic groups, etc.

VOR Letters Letter in Support of Lincoln Developmental Center Dear Governor Blagojevich, We are writing to thank and commend you for the leadership you have exhibited regarding the Lincoln Developmental Center (LDC) situation. As advocates for choice, we applaud your decision to re-open LDC and praise you for your efforts to bring together advocates, families, providers, employees and consumers for the benefit of all Illinoisans with mental retardation and developmental disabilities. You have made it very clear that LDC, upon re-opening, will be a state-of-the-art facility. Many families of former LDC residents are grateful that a new and improved LDC will again be an option for their loved ones. Many people with severe and profound mental retardation who also have complex medical conditions and/or behavioral challenges require and choose the specialized care available in Illinois facilities. Adding LDC back to the mix of choices is the right thing to do. Your decision to re-open LDC fits squarely with the letter and spirit of Olmstead . In this landmark decision, the Supreme Court recognized an ongoing role for facilities equipped to safely and professionally serve some people with disabilities:
