Honeysuckle Sore Throat Syrup Recipe #117217
This was gotten off a botanical website and submitted by a girl named Deborah. She says this cured her little girl's strep throat when no antibiotics would. I love honeysuckle and it grows profusely here along roadside fences. You can mix flowers and leaves in proportion you like.

Antibiotics for sore throat (Cochrane Review)
Del Mar CB, Glasziou PP, Spinks AB ABSTRACT What's new in this issue Search abstracts Browse alphabetical list of titles Browse by Review Group A substantive amendment to this systematic review was last made on 25 February 2004. Cochrane reviews are regularly checked and updated if necessary. Background: Sore throat is a very common reason for people to seek medical care. It is a disease that remits spontaneously, that is, 'cure' is not dependent on treatment. Nonetheless primary care doctors commonly prescribe antibiotics for sore throat and other upper respiratory tract infections. Objectives: To assess the benefits of antibiotics in the management of sore throat. Search strategy: Systematic search of the literature from 1945 to 2003, using electronic searches of the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) (The Cochrane Library, issue 2, 2003); MEDLINE (January 1966 to May 2003); EMBASE (January 1990 to March 2003), and the reference sections of the articles identified. We applied no language restrictions. We used abstracts of identified articles to identify trials. Selection criteria: Trials of antibiotic against control with either measures of the typical symptoms (throat soreness, headache or fever), or suppurative complications (meaning: forming pus) and non-suppurative complications of sore throat.

A cough is a sign that nerves in the pharynx (upper throat), larynx (throat), trachea (main breathing tube) or large bronchi (breathing tubes in the lungs) are irritated. A sore throat, also known as pharyngitis, is visible as inflammation or redness of the tissues, sometimes with yellowish/white pus on the tonsils.
Causes
The most common cause of a cough in childhood is an upper respiratory tract infection, usually viral (such as the common cold) or could be bacterial. More serious infections include croup (viral laryngotracheitis), bronchiolitis whooping cough and pneumonia. It's not unusual for a child to have a recurrent cough due to repeated infections, but this can also be a sign of an underlying problem, such as

Strep throat gives you a sore throat and makes it hard to swallow. Find out more in this article for kids.
http://kidshealth.org/kid/health_problems/infection/strep_throat.html
KidsHealth Kids Kids' Health Problems Infections
"It could be strep throat." Have you ever heard a doctor or your mom say that when you're sick and you have a sore throat? Strep throat is a disease caused by tiny egg-shaped bacteria (say: bak- teer -ee-uh) called Group A streptococci (say: strep-toe- kah -kye). These bacteria cause 15% to 20% of all sore throats and are found in your throat and on your skin. If a kid has strep throat, the doctor will probably give him or her medicine called antibiotics. These kill the strep bacteria. That's good news because sometimes strep throat can get worse and cause problems with other parts of a kid's body. In rare cases, untreated strep can cause arthritis (say: ar- threye -tus) or heart problems from a disease called rheumatic (say: roo- mah -tik) fever. Most of the time kids get the medicine they need and recover from strep throat very quickly. After taking the medicine for 24 hours, you will feel a lot better and will no longer be contagious. However, it is really important to take all 10 days of the medicine to make sure that you have treated the infection. How Do I Get It?

How to Relieve a Sore Throat
Sore throats can be caused by bacteria or viruses. Most require no medical intervention, and will go away within two to three days. Here are a few tips to make a sore throat go away even quicker. Steps: Consider the cause: a bug that's going around the office, enthusiastic cheering, or perhaps something more serious, such as strep throat. There are instant strep throat test strips that can tell you in less than 30 minutes if you have strep throat. Be aware, though, that these strips sometimes deliver false negatives. Take an analgesic to reduce inflammation'aspirin, acetaminophen or ibuprofen for an adult, or acetaminophen or ibuprofen for children'as recommended by your doctor. Suck on throat lozenges if you are an adult'especially those containing menthol, benzocaine or phenol, which numb the throat. Zinc lozenges may also be helpful. Children should suck on cough drops or hard candy. Gargle with mint mouthwash or salt water.

Drink tea or even plain hot water with honey. Mix honey and lemon juice together and drink. Use zinc lozenges for healing and pain relief. Take a high-potency multivitamin and the herb echinacea to build up your immune system. Reduce exposure to dust, cigarette smoke and other chemical irritants. Avoid very spicy or hot foods. Warnings: If your sore throat does not improve after a week to 10 days, or if you have trouble swallowing or notice white patches in the back of your throat, see a doctor.
