PEOPLE: The population of Somalia is divided into two main ethnic groups. (1.) Hamitic stock and associated clans who constitute 85% of the population and (2.) the Bantu who account for 14%. Other minorities include Arabs, Europeans, Indians and Pakistanis. DEMOGRAPHIC/VITAL STATISTICS: Density; 12 persons per sq km (31 persons per sq mi) (1991).
