162. CCSU - Social Work Program
Information on the Baccalaureate program.
http://www.sociology.ccsu.edu/socialwork/studenthndbk.htm
Student Handbook The Social Work Program operates under a selective admissions policy. That policy requires that students who have declared Pre-Social Work as a major must make formal application for admission to the Social Work Major. Enrollment in advanced courses and the field is restricted to students who have been FORMALLY admitted to the Social Work Program. Application is made after students have completed Introduction to Social Welfare Policy (SW 226) and Human Behavior in the Social Environment (SW 227). There are three documents that are available to assist prospective, as well as currently enrolled, students; The University catalog, The University Student Handbook, and this Social Work Program Student Handbook. You are urged to read these materials as all these documents are meant to clarify University as well as Social Work Program policies. In order for a student to be accepted into the Social Work Major, they must have applied and been accepted by Central Connecticut State University. ACCEPTANCE INTO CCSU DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY GUARANTEE ACCEPTANCE INTO THE SOCIAL WORK PROGRAM. All students must apply and be accepted into the major in a separate application process. This handbook includes the Social Work Admission Policy along with a description of the application process, procedures and an application form. NOTE that you must submit a completed application form, copies of transcripts from all colleges attended and your personal statement (which will be evaluated as a sample of your writing) by MARCH 1ST or OCTOBER 1ST prior to entering advanced social work courses. Application forms are also available from the Program Office (Vance Academic Center, Room 3240500).

At the undergraduate level the School makes a major contribution to the Bachelor of Arts degree in which the school offers majors in all four of its disciplines. In each discipline we offer a wide range of subjects from which students have considerable flexibility of choice. By bringing together teaching and research expertise in social theory, public policy and cultural and social analysis, and the study of Asian languages and cultures, we offer a broad program which is relevant to both future careers and academic work. In addition to teaching in Bachelor of Arts, the School also has primary responsibility for a number of other specialist degree programs. The highly successful

PROGRESSIVE SOCIOLOGISTS NETWORK P S N PSN is a moderated list devoted to the examination of issues of theoretical and political importance to sociologists. We seek intellectually stimulating debates around issues such as the nature of the "New World Order," the globalization of capital, the redistribution of labor from the South to the North and its effects on labor struggles, racism, sexism, sexual politics, the resurgence of white supremacist groups, nationalism and ethnic struggles, the future of democracy in an increasingly polarized world and so forth. Last, but not least, we seek a debate about the relevance of Marxism for the theoretical and empirical investigation of the present historical conjuncture. We especially encourage the participation of graduate students through an atmosphere that is supportive as well as intellectually stimulating. PSN has hosted a seminar on the 150th anniversary of the Manifesto Join PSN today! Suggestions, comments (supportive or otherwise:) should be sent to the moderators:

Looking for our research ranking of the world's architecture schools ? Find them here Dr Garry Stevens is an Aussie who spent 15 years as an academic at architecture schools in Australia and the United States, and then migrated into the real world. He is the author of three books published in the United States and the United Kingdom on computer-aided design; mathematics; and sociology. They have been translated into four languages. Maybe five or six. He now works in the IT industry, where he gets to experience the realities of the private sector, and some dollops of the public sector. Every so often Garry gets asked to give lectures in his native Australia or overseas, but to really keep his academic hand in, Garry runs the Key Centre for Architectural Sociology . This conducts research into architects and society, architectural history, education, and the architecture schools. Many more people have read his works from his website than they ever did from his many academic articles and books. He is best known, though, as the designer of several popular historical family
