The idea of establishing a psychological university was born in 1988 when the disastrous earthquake happened. The terrible calamity covered the north-western regions of the country which had advanced industry, dense population, rich culture and national traditions. For a couple of seconds it razed to the ground a great number of cities and villages, taking away thousands of lives. The survivors faced an unbelievable sorrow caused by the loss of their homes and relatives.
At the same time the republic was at war due to Karabagh problem. Economic blockade of Armenia, genocide of the Armenian population in Azerbaijan, robbery and resettlement; this was the picture of the new-born independent Republic of Armenia.
Beside this there was lack of cultural life, as cultural centers were being closed one after another and interrelation between people was getting worse and worse.

158. CCSU - Social Work Program
Open to students in the sophomore year with placement in a variety of human service agencies.
http://www.sociology.ccsu.edu/socialwork/fieldman.htm
FIELD COMPONENT OF THE SOCIAL WORK PROGRAM The field component of the Social Work major is one of the strengths of the program. Students who enter the Program in their sophomore year will graduate with about 680 hours of agency practice. It is the feeling of the Program faculty that this breadth of field experience is to the student's advantage. The Program utilizes a concurrent model of field education that affords students opportunity to simultaneously practice in the field the theory that is learned in the classroom. The region surrounding CCSU possesses a rich array of human service agencies and provides a wide range of opportunities to support the field instruction program. The Program has used over 200 agencies to provide field opportunities for students) and enjoys strong support from the professional community.
The following objectives have been articulated for the field sequence: 1. Provide multiple and cumulative field experiences which prepare students for strong contributions to local agencies. 2. Integrate conceptual materials from foundation courses with generalist practice skills.
