Culture and Health Overview Center Personnel Research Programs Center Contact Overview The Center for Culture and Health examines how social, structural, psychological, and cultural factors affect mental and physical health. We specialize in longitudinal studies of children and youth at risk, and the family dynamics that shape and are shaped by health, sickness, and medical experience. Our strengths include the study of factors that influence medical decision making, and the cultural meanings linked with various psychological and medical conditions.
We are interested in whether and how culture, ethnicity, and race may shape individual, family, and group experience, and the nature of interactions among ethnicity/race, social class, gender, and health. Immigrant families and children are a strong interest at the Center. Current studies include African Americans, Afro-Caribbeans, Asian-Americans (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Southeast Asian), European-Americans, Mexicans, and other Latino groups.
Our methodological strengths include systematic approaches to the collection and analysis of qualitative data, mixed methods, techniques for analyzing links between qualitative and quantitative approaches, and interactions among micro, intermediate, and macro-levels of analysis.

Conclusion
Introduction
The amazing ability of technology, in particular, the Internet to hurl text, images, and sound with tremendous speed, efficiency, and affordability has made it much easier for the average person to create, share and experience culture (O'Connor, 1997). Prior to this technocultural revolution, most tended to enjoy cultural products created by others. This process of experiencing culture produced by others reflects and reproduces a pattern of asymmetrical and hierarchical relations that dominates social interaction. In this model, those able to create culture possess superior cultural capital compared to those who simply experience the products produced by others. The dichotomous categorical distinction between those who produce and experience culture has been maintained by limiting access to the tools necessary to produce and disseminate cultural products. Nowhere is this control over access to cultural products more evident than in schools. The majority of individuals involved in the schooling process are in a disadvantageous social position that requires them to consume and value the cultural products produced by others. Successful schooling requires one to adhere to a prescribed set of cultural content delivered through a narrowly defined curriculum. This traditional and narrowly defined curriculum is delivered to the individual by instructors who are responsible for inculcating the student with a set of norms that perpetuates the relationships among groups in the social system (Bowles and Gintis, 1976).

I have tried to collect only meaningful resources. This is not a meta-site providing access to the complete resources on the topic. Given that the WWW contains more than 150 million web-site at the moment (March 1999), providing a complete directory seems to be almost impossible. You may also wish to send me your comments and suggestions Thanks for your kind support and may you walk in beauty, balance and peace.
Coverage of all Indigenous Peoples in the Circumpolar Region cannot be accomplished by one person. I have done my best to list relevant resources, but I am aware that this is not enough to keep the Library updated.

Description
This work pursues to critically probe Black American Intellectualism and Culture in the organizational construct of intellectual studies; cultural studies; literary studies; and social thought. Accent has been placed on an interdisciplinary focus of examining the ethos and memory of Africana people. The intangible view of Africana people is reported and illustrated from an African American prism.
This study is an unconventional advance reviewing: history, narratives, biography, autobiography, and epistemology. As Africana scholars research society in the form of politics, business, social, education, political, and economic institutions - the retentive ideas of Africana values, mores, and folkways become imperative to examine events from an assembly of viewpoints. In fact, these variables provide a foundation for amassing query, that narrates and appraises Africana people.

Inuit Culture: Resources for Educators I am a long term northern resident and educator and have prepared this page as a resource for elementary school social studies teachers. The Arctic and the Inuit have experienced major changes in the past few years. Many texts and curriculum guides may not reflect the current northern cultural and political environment. There is a wide range of resources and information available on the Internet about the Inuit people and their culture. I have reviewed many of them and have put together this collection that provides accurate and interesting information on various aspects of Inuit history, culture, current events and lifestyle. This information would be useful in supplementing standard curriculum materials. Most pages are intended for adult readers, however I have noted a few that are written for children. Incorporating information from these pages into a social studies curriculum will help students understand and appreciate the unique culture and history of the Inuit.
