Tournaments Women's Soccer History WHERE WE HAVE BEEN.......................... Female soccer has been played in this State since at least the 1920's. There is an article from the "Sports Referee" Brisbane, Saturday September 24, 1921, which records both in word and photograph the match between North Brisbane and South Brisbane Ladies held at the Brisbane Cricket Ground with 10,000 people in attendance. North Brisbane defeated South Brisbane 2 goals to Nil. In August 1974 the South Queensland Women's Soccer Association was formed as the governing body for women's soccer in the State. Initially, the area governed was Brisbane, south to the Gold Coast and north to Rockhampton. For a few years, the area from Rockhampton to the far north was controlled by the North Queensland Women's Soccer Association. However, this organisation fell by the wayside and for many years the female soccer players in the north were not represented. In 1990, the S.Q.W.S.A. embarked on a fact finding tour of all areas of Queensland to ascertain if all these areas where women's soccer was played were in favour of forming Women's Soccer Queensland - a body which would represent female players throughout the entire State of Queensland. The decision was unanimous and Women's Soccer Queensland was born and the name was registered with the Justice Department. The following twelve months were taken up with reforming the constitution and the players were represented by the former S.Q.W.S.A. Board. However, in February, 1993, the first elected Board of WSQ took up office.

Iraq Fact of the Day In a stunning upset victory, the Iraq national football team defeated Saudi Arabia and earned a trip to the 2004 Olympic Summer games in Athens. The 3 to 1 victory marks the first time in Iraq's history that its football team will compete in the Olympics. "This means Iraq is on the right path," said a tearful Hawar Mulla Mohammed moments after the game. He scored the team's go-ahead and eventually winning goal of the game. "Our entire country deserves this incredible win," he said. This achievement means that Iraq will send about 30 athletes to the Summer games for a seven-fold increase from just four years ago. AAU Rings PAST PICTURES AND RESULTS
Since its beginning in Washington, DC, the AAU Junior Olympic Games have been conducted in 15 states and 24 cities across the United States. The state of Tennessee is in the lead with five (5) AAU Junior Olympic Games to its credit. Florida is a strong second with four (4), all in different cities: Cocoa Beach, Jacksonville, St. Petersburg, and Tallahassee. In the nineties alone, the Games have grown by more than 6,000 participants. The Games will continue to expand and flourish into the 21st century as the popularity of sport and the attention to the youth in America intensifies. In 2000, the event broke all existing records for participation with over 13,000 athletes from all 50 states and several U.S. Territories and U.S. Military Bases around the world. One thing that remains consistent from year to year is the AAU's commitment to the youth of America. Sports for All, Forever!
