Making Soccer History
By Lindsay Ingaldson
The day of the finals of the Beaverton Cup soccer tournament in Oregon had arrived. My heart pounded as I lined up for the international opening! I became so nervous everything appeared to be in slow motion! Tweet!! The whistle sounded, and the game started. Everything sped to normal pace as I gained my confidence. The game was evenly matched. So even, it seemed to go on forever! Back and forth, back and forth. This game was like watching the Wimbledon tennis tournament instead of the Beaverton Cup! It was a relief when the halftime whistle was blown! After our halftime talk, we resumed play on the field with great expectations that our team could win the game, but it continued to be like tennis. Then, with the final ten minutes remaining, my teammate dribbled down field on a breakaway, faked the goalie out, and scored! It all happened so quickly; the play felt like I was watching a movie on fast-forward. The spectators went berserk as the team huddled up and squealed with happiness. It was the day of the finals at the Beaverton Cup. My heart pounded because I was so nervous, yet deep down I knew that we could make soccer history, and that day we did.

http://www.ironlakessportsclub.com/LV Soccer History.htm
We’re in the Right Place at the Right Time Some members of our group are often reminded of the days when Lehigh Valley soccer was influential regionally and nationally. The Pennsylvania Stoners were bringing thousands of people to ASD and BASD Stadiums, Bethlehem High School teams were State Champions and played in front of thousands, many local players populated a large number of Division 1 Soccer powers from Vermont to South Carolina. The Lehigh Valley, its schools and clubs sent players to National and Olympic teams, and there were All-Americans and professional players at a variety of levels. Jim Stamatis, a local player, won a Hermann Award Winner while playing at Penn State. Local teams with local players beat foreign powers here and abroad, a club team went to the final four in the McGuire Cup and another went to the final four in both the US Open and Amateur Cups. Lehigh Valley Youth teams regularly beat Philadelphia Area All-Star teams. While there are excellent teams and players still being produced, the efforts are far too diffused to put a particular Lehigh Valley stamp on the region and country. We want to take the Lehigh Valley back to its appropriate stature regionally and nationally.

http://www.schwabensoccer.com/history.php
Login: Schwaben Athletic Club History In the years following the 1st World War there was a large immigration of people from Europe to the United States.
While they left Europe to escape the hardships and find a better and easier way of life, they did not leave Europe forgetting all the ethnic customs of language, foods, and sports that had been a good part of their lives.
This was true of the founding fathers of the Schwaben Athletic Club. They immigrated from Germany, mostly from the southern part near the Black Forest in the state of Wurttenberg, where the people speak the Schwabisch dialect of German. They brought with them a love of soccer, or fussball as it is referred to in German. They joined a soccer club called the Chicago Sport Club which was founded in 1925 after breaking away from the German Club. One of the founders, Mr. Herman Trumpp, was also a founder of the Chicago Sport Club.
A couple of early names in Chicago soccer along with the Chicago Sport Club were Vienna F.C. and Chicago Wanderers. Competition was poor and clubs with more than enough players all eager to play. The Chicago Sport Club had three teams and 60 to 70 players all fighting for a chance on the field. Because of this, dissention began to develop and arguments started. So in 1926, thirteen young men broke away to form still another club, Fussball Club Schwaben, later to be known as the Schwaben Athletic Club. These thirteen young men were: Emil and Willy Bahnmaier, Fred Beltle, George Frank, John Karstensen, Willy Lichtenberger, Albert Munzenmay, Louis Singer, Emil Staib, Kurt Steinbach and Herman, Karl and Walter Trumpp. Just enough to make a soccer team with one substitute and one linesman.

Coach Captains Roster Schedule ... Haverford Home Page History Haverford became the first intercollegiate men's soccer program in the country to record 700 all-time wins with a 7-0 victory against Neumann on September 7, 2002. The oldest organized college soccer team in the nation, the Fords' rich tradition began a century ago when Richard Gummere '02 entered a club from the college in a local league. The soccer program soon gained national prominence when Haverford defeated Harvard University, 1-0, in the first modern-day intercollegiate soccer match on April 1, 1905. The Crimson's team had been started by Haverfordians who went to Cambridge for graduate school. Haverford was one of the top teams in the nation in the first half of the century, often winning the national title over an essentially Ivy League schedule. The 1945 team was undefeated. The soccer squad was a regional power in the 1950's under its great Scottish mentor, U.S. Olympic coach and Soccer Hall of Famer Jimmy Mills. As late as 1960, two Fords, Harold Taylor and Gyula Kovacsics, both '61, were named to a first-team All-American eleven that included players from major universities. In the mid-'70's, Haverford became a frequent NCAA tournament qualifier and won the Middle Atlantic Conference Southern Division five times between 1976 and '82 under coach Dave Felsen '66, now headmaster at Friends Central School near Philadelphia, and Stanley "Skip" Jarocki '69.

Coach Captains Roster Schedule ... Haverford Home Page History With the century-long success of soccer at Haverford, it was not surprising that when women's soccer began at the college in the mid-'80s, it found fertile soil and took root quickly. Swift progress was made from a combined club with Bryn Mawr, to an all-Haverford club and then to HC's first varsity in 1985. One member of that first varsity who earned all-league status was Wendy Smith '87 who has returned as head coach of the program. Smith's teams have been outstanding, and, in 1995, the Fords won the Centennial Conference Championship. Elena Kozakewich '06 became the Fords' first-ever First Team All-American after leading Haverford to a 15-2-2 record and top 25 national ranking in 2004. Kozakewich, who also was named Centennial Conference Player of the Year, and classmates Ashley Emmons and Meej Kim earned all-region honors that year as well, while Cathy Carbonaro '06, Andrea Fishman '07, and Ryan Hedrick '08 joined Kozakewich, Emmons and Kim as all-conference selections. In 2003, senior goalkeeper Jen Trowbridge was named to the Third Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region, after earning Second Team All-Centennial Conference honors and setting the college's record for career shutouts. Trowbridge joined the ranks of other Fords who have received all-region recognition, including Jessica Rosen '96 (2nd team 1995), Amanda Salter '98 (3rd team 1997), Courtney Nolan '99 (3rd team both 1998 and 1999), and Liz Young '02 (3rd team 2001).

Colorado College Men's Soccer History
Founded on a club basis in 1950 before achieving varsity status 12 years later, in 1962, Colorado College soccer celebrated its Golden Anniversary in 2000. Since that time the Tigers have claimed six championships in the old Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Soccer League (RMISL) and have competed in the NCAA play-offs 18 times, including a trip to the Division III semifinals in 1992.
Pat McGinnis became became CC's sixth All-American in 2004 following in the footsteps of, Dan Morlan (l997), Greg Kazemi (1986), Robert Lipp (1992), Noah Epstein (l990 and '93) and Arron Lujan in 1994. RMISL player-of-the-year recognition was awarded to Kristian Sundborn in 1988 and to Erik Richardson in 1991 and all-academic recognition was awarded to Erik Richardson in 199l and to Isaac Jones in 1995. Morlan, Lipp, Epstein, Lujan and 1996 graduate Andre Nunley all have gone on to sign professional contracts with the Colorado Foxes of the American Professional Soccer League.
In a half century of competition, including those as a club team, the Tigers have compiled a record of 444 victories, 241 defeats and 55 ties.
