Survey of Service Literature for Slovenia, 1996-2000: "Institutional and Cultural Dimensions of Services" by Metka Stare 3.5.1. Methodology
3.5.2. Comments on the Literature
3.5.1. Methodology back to top of page 3.5.2. Comments on the Literature Overall, the evidence on the literature on institutional and cultural dimensions of services in Slovenia reveals that no systematic or comprehensive research is undertaken. The analysis of broader institutional aspects of services development is neglected in particular. The evidence also confirms the fragmented character of published literature and the dominance of partial approaches on institutional or cultural dimensions of services. Most publications, in fact, deal with business culture or tourism-culture interlinkages. On a sectoral level, institutional and cultural dimensions of services are most frequently explored in tourism, revealing the importance of the tourist industry for Slovenian economy and foreign trade. The discussion concentrates on the marketing of cultural "goods" as a generator of faster development of tourist services at the country level (Slovenia) (Schiemann 1998) as well as at the local level (towns) (Kovač 1996, Lipovšek 1996, Bezeljak 1999). Next Foreword Welcome to the Visiting Arts Slovenia Cultural Profile Slovenia has been a point of convergence of many nations, empires, national alliances and political systems for centuries. In 1991 the newly independent State adopted a democratic constitution and began its rapid evolution into a member of the European Union (achieved in May 2004). Slovenia is a small and relatively prosperous nation and is rich in unspoilt natural landscapes and ancient monuments. While tourist knowledge of Slovenia within Europe is relatively low, its contemporary arts and cultural projects are exported around the world. This Cultural Profile begins with an overview of Slovenian society and history, a short review of cultural policy and infrastructure, and then moves into in-depth studies of the arts and cultural sectors themselves, their development, current practice and significant features which are intended to give the general enquirer, the professional arts manager or the academic a comprehensive picture of the Slovenian cultural system, including its

About Ljubljana Tourism Tourism
Ljubljana city life
... Cinemas Culture and Art in Ljubljana The Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra and the Slovenian Chamber Choir A scene from the 24th Ljubljana International Biennial of Graphic Art Works by the art group Irwin In Ljubljana culture is not merely a matter of prestige, but an entire way of life. The Slovenians are apparently the only nation that has a Culture Day as a national holiday. Art and culture have helped the Slovenians - wedged as they were between the more powerful German and Romance nations - to retain their own language and cultural identity throughout the centuries. Through all the momentous events in the European history and critical moments in the existence of the Slovenian nation, it was specifically the artists and men of culture who often helped the nation get through the most difficult times. Always in the mainstream of events, they absorbed all that was new in the European Parnassus, tested it, adopted what resonated with the Slovenian soul and, with a highly critical attitude towards their own creativity, enriched the European cultural treasure trove with their contributions. It is precisely in Ljubljana, the heart of Slovenia, that this creativity is expressed most intensely. Due to interesting cultural scene, typically marked by original approaches by many of the Slovenian artists, Ljubljana always was - and still is - something of a challenge to foreign artists. It is because of this that Ljubljana can satisfy even the tastes of the most demanding conoisseurs.

Establishing a Culture of Peace through the Culture of Heart
IRFF Project from 23rd to 31st August 2002 in Slovenia
See the Photo Gallery Family is the base of social life and relationships. In all cultures and area family and family values are appearing as a focus and even more, as sacred. All important cultures and civilizations have a family as something noble and holy. Family is a place shaping man's personality, a place of receiving and experiencing love, feeling of being wanted and accepted. But the family is also a ground and one of the most important mediators of goals, values and ideals. It is the institution most effectively teaching virtues of loyalty, respect for others, personal responsibility, honesty and self- sacrifice. One of the purposes of the IRFF pilot project centering on families: "Family and Service, Establishing a Culture of Peace through the Culture of Heart" , held from the 23rd to the 31st of August in Slovenia, was to show that this is the age of the family and family should not be an isolated unit or an island to itself, but should participate in the life of the community, think beyond the family's well being and have an active role in the society. 6 families with their children and several volunteers came to serve a small Slovenian town called Sentjur. Few families but large in number and spirit. Families ready to serve and inspire the community to follow their steps in the future. Parents from Italy, Brazil, Austria, UK, Bulgaria, Korea, Hungary and Slovenia brought their children to serve a community they have never heard about before, and their aim was to contribute, to learn, to share and be part of the Culture of Heart in creating the Culture of Peace.
