Liberal MPs refuted more than 1700 points within the document disputed by Conservatives, ending the Slovene minority's 25-year struggle for minority rights. (See: Trieste's Burden of History in CER.) The law's major feature is that it extends protection over all Slovenes in Italy, including those in the Udine region who have never before been protected. It also allows for a budget of ITL (Italian lira) 30 billion (EUR 44 million) for the minority. Italy's Slovene civil society institutions and officials welcomed the law. While the most common reaction was relief and thankfulness, it was invariably followed by a degree of dissatisfaction. Many Slovenes and sympathetic Italians view the law as a major step forward, but a perception remains that there is still much room for improvement. President Kučan welcomed the news, saying "today's achievement in the Italian Senate is a great achievement for Slovenes on both sides of the border as well as for a democratic Italy-for an Italy that is open to the world and has its sights set on the future."

Slovenia News 26 April 2005 Days of Indian Culture in Ljubljana Ljubljana, 22 April Days of Indian Culture, organised by an Indian-Slovenian friendship association, started at the Slovenian Philharmonics with a concert of traditional Indian music. The association wanted to present the colourful and diverse Indian culture to Slovenia. At the concert, Indian music was played by Lazslo Kovacs Lalit, guitar and sitar player, and Peter Szalai, player of a classic Indian instrument tabla. Both musicians studied with several Indian masters of music.
On 25 April, Ljubljana Castle hosted an evening of traditional Indian dances, where dancer Ujwal Bhole performed the South Indian dance "bharata natyam", which was already danced as a form of religious worship 1500 BC.
At the library Prezihov Voranc, storyteller Andreja Vukmir interpreted classical Indian stories "Savitri" and "Shakuntala" on 26 April, the last event at the festival.

Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, is a dynamic European city lying at an altitude of 298 meters above sea level in a broad basin between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea. Ljubljana's geographical position has governed its colourful past, since it is situated on a natural passage from Central Europe to the Mediterranean and toward the East called the "Ljubljana Gate." It is therefore not simply by pure coincidence that trade routes and waves of migration have passed through it since ancient times. From the times of the first settlers right down to the present day, the transit character of this area has stimulated the constant growth of economic and cultural ties with other cities and nations. Today, Ljubljana stands at the intersection of the national expressway system currently under construction. Slovenia's "expressway cross" is oriented in two general directions: Vienna - Graz - Maribor - Ljubljana - Nova Gorica - Trieste - Venice and Munich - Salzburg - Jesenice - Ljubljana - Zagreb - Belgrade - Athens - Istanbul. Ljubljana's ring road and major streets offer convenient access to the expressway. Ljubljana is also the junction of rail routes to Austria, Italy, and ports along the Adriatic Sea as well as eastwards.
