However, even during difficult historic periods, even in spite of considerable human and material losses, and without having their own state, the Slovakian people knew how to keep their vitality, their language and their culture in order to continue to develop them. They began the era of Lights full of hope and ready to assume their role in the national renaissance, ready to lead their struggle for the rebirth of their State.

Good luck. I did something similar to the history of Croatia which was also unnecessarily slanted against the medieval period, but less than this page. It's probably got to do with the less favourable historical circumstances in the case of Slovakia. Shallot 17:07, 23 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Juro told: cleared from the nationalist mess. I think there are some still there. How do you think the Hungarians disappeared from Slovakia 1918? If you don't delete this sentence I will do it soon. I understand Slovakia needs a history. But please, you won over Hungarians all the battles of the 20th century. You still have some of the mainly Hungarian territories like Kom¡rno, Zitny ostrov, Stºrovo, Lucenec, Kr¡lovsky Chlmec. Why do you write a history, which changes the real one? What's the purpose? Why do you need that? Why do you think that the border drown in the Trianon Palace of Versailles during 1919, existed in the Middle Ages? I am NOT the author of the article. Nobody disappeared from anywhere. And do not want me to start editting the Hungarian History which is terrible after the last edits - but I let it be. And stop your vandalism in the English and German encyclopedia.

Later, in the Bronze Age, current Slovak territory was an important crossroads of different ethnical groups and tribes, mainly the Celts, the Romans and Germanic tribes. West - Slavic tribes arrived in the West-Carpathians and adjacent lowlands during the 5 th and 6 th centuries. Shortly afterwards the Western Slavs established their first state-like formation after their victory over the nomadic tribe of Avars. Slavic warriors were led by a Frankish merchant named Samo. He distinguished himself in the battle and became their king until his death in 658.

Background:
Formerly a part of Austria-Hungary, the Slovaks joined with the closely related regions of Bohemia and neighbouring Moravia to form Czechoslovakia in 1918. In the chaos of World War II Slovakia became a separate republic in 1938, tightly controlled by Germany. Post World War II in 1945 with the Warsaw Pact Czechoslovakia has become a communist state within a Soviet-ruled Eastern Europe. With the collapse of the Soviet influence in 1989 Czechoslovakia became a sovereign state.
Historic, political, and geographic factors have caused Slovakia to experience more difficulty than some of its Central European neighbors in developing from a centrally planned economy to a modern market economy.

Part II:

Campaign for distorting and whitewashing the history of fascist Slovak State. The campaign for revising the disgraceful clerofascist period of Slovak history, the inhumane crimes committed, collaboration with Nazi Germany, the damage caused to own people and to allies fighting Hitler, continue with increasing trend. Falsifications of history want to make from this infamous period a paradise of peace in the heart of Europe, where the persecuted Jews lived in welfare, Tiso being their protector, the second father of nation nearly a Saviour The Czechs, Czechoslovaks, Protestants , as well as Jews were the main evil, or traitors , the SNU was a treachery committed on the nation, which has caused that the victorious powers forced Slovakia to become part of Czechoslovak republic ( 69, 70, 71, 72, 73, 74.) The main protagonists of this false propaganda and of falsifying history are Dr Ján Bobák ( Matica slovenská.), Dr František Vnuk (emigrant who has returned from Australia ), and Milan S. Ïurica ( also returned home from emigration) Dr Ján Bobák ( former lector of Central Committee of Communist Party, staff member of Institute of communist party history, and deputy chairman of local branch of com-party in Matica slovenská.)- he declares that SNU was " coup of August", in which "Slovaks turned their weapons against other Slovaks " and "August 29 was the black day of the Slovak nation"( 76.)- At present he occupies the post of secretary to the historic institute of M.S. where he has been much involved in propagating these and similar ideas ( Complete list is not possible)
