The Siberian Husky Social Club of Big Bear Lake, CA Dog Sledding ~ Skijoring ~ Carting ~ Hiking ~ Biking ~ Camping ~ Picnics Welcome! We first started The Siberian Husky Social Club of Big Bear Lake in January, of 1998. Unlike other breed specific clubs, we are not interested in breeding or showing our dogs. Our interests center around organizing activities that will challenge this remarkable breed of dog and provide them with the level of social interaction they need to flourish. We are open to all people and all dog breeds as long as both dog and owner are friendly and have been properly socialized. Our club promotes responsible dog ownership through education, spay and neutering, and we are strong supporters of breed rescue, and will not recommend dog breeders. Tips for Safer Sledding and Tobogganing
Sliding downhill is an exhilarating winter sport. People of all ages can participate, and use all kinds of containers, from large toboggans to plastic disks or even cardboard boxes. But sledding unintentional injuries are surprisingly common despite snow's cushioning effect. Estimates of the number of injuries treated in hospital emergency rooms every year show about 33,000 sledding injuries and 1,500 from tobogganing. Sledding injuries often include facial lacerations or skull fractures. Tobogganing injuries almost always involve the lower half of the body. Children ages 5 to 9 are most susceptible to injury. Parents of young children should not let them sled alone. Older children should be taught to check for hazards. The National Safety Council offers these guidelines for safe and fun sledding and tobogganing:
  • Keep all equipment in good condition. Broken parts, sharp edges, cracks and split wood invite injuries. Dress warmly enough for conditions.

Jubilee College State Park is a 3,200-acre facility, located in Peoria County between the towns of Kickapoo and Brimfield, just off U.S. Route 150. This scenic area, with its rolling topography and meandering Jubilee Creek, offers various outdoor recreational opportunities.
History
Named Jubilee College by its founder, Episcopal Bishop Philander Chase in 1839, in expression of his thankfulness and joy, the college was one of the earliest educational enterprises in Illinois. Through a series of misfortunes climaxed by the Bishop's death, the college closed in 1862. In 1933 the college and grounds, consisting of 93 acres, were presented to the state of Illinois. Since that time the Department of Natural Resources increased the acreage to 3,200. The college building, placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, has been restored to its original appearance and is under the management of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.
