No one was killed, though seven people were taken by helicopter to a hospital in Fort Worth, 45 miles south, a Wise County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman said. The extent of their injuries was unknown. Several others were taken to Wise Regional Hospital in Decatur, she said. The accident occurred in a region called Skydive, named for a skydive company based there, said Officer Cliff Swofford of the Decatur Police Department. Freefall!!! Standing in the doorway of the plane you still feel grounded. The equipment weighs heavily on your back, the floor presses against your feet, and the straps pull on your legs and shoulders. Longing for the freedom of flight, you leap. Ten seconds after leaving the plane the wind supports you, fighting against gravity, holding you at a constant speed. Me falling away from a Cessna Touching nothing but air you feel the exhilarating rush of adrenaline as you soar through the sky at 120 miles per hour. You are in control; with the slightest movements of your body you alter heading, speed, and position. You and the invisible element seem perfectly in tune yet the thrill of danger sharpens your focus, slows time, and heightens your senses. Your every nerve tingles with excitement. That smooth collage of color miles below may be where you live but this is where you are most alive! For sixty seconds of eternity you are completely free of all worldly concerns; it is just you and the sky. With only one mile left to fall the land has started moving toward you. You now have a glimmer of the immense speed at which you are traveling. As you fall below four thousand feet the Earth begins to quickly expand, rushing to meet you. Five short seconds later, a scant three thousand feet left, you open that life saving piece of cloth. The mad rush of wind suddenly transforms into the peaceful calm of a parachute ride. Slowly your ears adjust to the new volume and you hear the flapping of that beautiful fabric above your head. Eventually gravity reasserts itself; you are now below two hundred feet and the Earth is charging up, ready to swallow you. At a mere twelve feet, with a pull on the toggles, you slow your descent and gently set your feet on the ground. You have dared to defy gravity and again you have emerged victorious.

My Feelings About Fear I always thought skydiving would be fun, but I was also always scared to death of heights. So, I never pursued skydiving. I just thought it was something I was not capable of doing. However, after I had decided to eliminate fear from my life, I realized that skydiving was now possible. So, after returning to Mass, after a tour of duty in Alabama (Air Force, and no I didn't fly a plane), I decided it was time to confront my biggest fear. As the plane was taking off for my first skydive, I was nervous. The higher we got, the more nervous I got. Then they opened the door. I could see people leaving the plane. Every time someone jumped, I could feel the plane adjust to its new weight. I got real nervous. Then, I saw the view from the door. I could see the threshold a few feet below my head (I was bent over), and the ground over two and a half miles below. That is absolutely the most terrifying scene I have ever witnessed. My body froze. However, as soon as my body froze I remembered my decision not to allow fear in my life. My brain shut down the fear and I walked to the door. I got into position and jumped without any hesitation. That was the greatest moment in my life to date. Nothing will ever compare to overcoming that fear. The Casa and Team One Kick off the Labor Day Weekend at Atlanta Skydiving Center The Casa and Team One helped kick Labor Day weekend up a notch at Atlanta Skydiving Center. The Casa was here from Saturday through Monday, offering many jumpers their first tailgate experience. Meanwhile, Team One was busy spreading the good vibe via great organizing and tube and raft dives. Congratulations to Jack Barnes who made his 1,500 skydive out of the Casa! And, still on his quest to make a jump in every state, he is getting very close. Also, congrats ring out for Ryan Bahnsen who is graduating from the AFF program. He is definitely already a true-blue, skydiving junkie. Last weekend, Atlanta Skydiving Center was well represented at NSL Nationals. Kenny Pugh snatched 10th place in the canopy piloting division, and Chuck Owen was ranked number 12! You guys rock! Our 4-way teams also did us proud. Inviscid took 5th place in the advanced division and Airlock placed an impressive 9th out of 43 teams in the intermediate. Way to go! Two of our favorite skydiving chics were celebrating big-time last weekend. Jessica Edgington made her 1,000th skydive. Jessica (pictured left), a long time packer and manifestor at Atlanta Skydiving Center, has left those jobs to morph into a video diva. And the hardest working packer we’ve ever met, Kelsey Brennen, completed her AFF Level 7. Way to go, Kelsey!
