After a week of anticipation and waiting for the weather to cooperate, I made my first AFF jump today, with Wild Wind Skydivers in Elwell, Michigan. I was ready for a disappointing day, because the place was really hazy with fog. Right around noon though, all of the fog burned away, and it was perfect. After about 45 minutes of final ground preperation, we took off for an altitude of 9500 ft. I am eternally grateful that my JM kept me busy telling him what I was going to do when we reached altitude, and kept me from just sitting there thinking about how high we were. Once the moment came, the hardest part was physically, not emotionally, getting out the door, and hanging onto the wing strut of the Cessna 180. I remember letting go of the strut, but I don't remember falling away from the plane. | |
