Netty Kim is the 1995 Canadian Women's Champion. Unfortunately, she did not qualify at Worlds, but this is not without precedent, hopefully she'll make a Nicole Bobeck style comeback next year 8). When she was 16, Netty "ripped up her right ankle landing a jump" and decided to quit skating. 9 months later she had a change of heart.

Figure Skating Books This page contains reviews and assorted bits of information on a wide variety of books on figure skating. Click here to skip ahead to the figure skating bookseller links. The reviews on this page were copied from George Robbin's roller skating web site. I probably won't be updating this page very often, so you might be able to find more current information by going directly to George's site . Besides "How To" books, there is also a wide variety of of other figure skating books. There are several biographies, skating psychology, and general interest books. There is even a book on skate blade design. A lot of the books in this list are no doubt out of print and hard to find. If you can find The Art of Skating I will publicly acknowledge you in this page as a Skate Librarian God.
The best and most currently available "How To" book on skating for the more advanced skater is probably John Petkevich's book on Championship Techniques . There are several other books better oriented towards the beginner. Check the reviews to find the book that best suits your needs. On Line Figure Skating Book Selllers Skating Book Index

Clinical Director of the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine During Andy's ten years as an athletic trainer at the University of Colorado, he had a dream of developing a sports medicine center equal to any university or Olympic training facility in the country. To complicate his dream a little farther, he also wanted to make it available to all athletes, of any age and skill. This dream was fostered by two terms as a US Olympic Committee volunteer trainer and two trips to the Olympic Sports Festival. At the US Olympic Festival in 1986 in Houston, Andy made history being an athletic trainer for the track and field team, as well as a competitive cyclist. Through this experience he became aware of the vast discrepancy between the sports medical care available to Olympic athletes and that which is available to athletes of all ages and abilities. His vision fixed, his purpose set, it would take ten years to realize his dream with the opening of the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine in January 1998.

    Gia Guddat and Gary Beacom
I know/have heard absolutely nothing about Gia except that they met at a skating club in Markham, ON, fell in love and have been together ever since. So expect everything else here to be about Gary. Pretty much all of the info herein was gleaned from watching "Adrienne Clarkson Presents: Gary Beacom: Life on the Edge (or Living on the Edge or something like that 8)". Always one to carve his own path, Gary gave up on coaches when he entered university. He completed a degree in physics and philosophy while training around an hour a day. He attended the '84 Olympics "alone", without a coach, and skated brilliantly. He knew that his work was unlikely to be accepted, and so stood on the ice facing the judges until the marks were announced. They were low, as he expected. Overcome by rage he kicked the boards, putting a hole in them, and trapping his blade so that he had to work to get it out again. Not long after this he turned pro, where he is much happier.

Vancouver Skating Club B.C. Centre of Excellence Joanne McLeod Joanne McLeod Emanuel Sandhu, who was born in Toronto, ONT, started skating at age 8. He has a strong background in dance and ballet, which is quite apparent in his programs. He's also the most exotic-looking among the men's competitors, thanks to his Indian-Italian background. Emanuel is fluent in three languages - English, French, and Italian. What many people don't know ... he loves to sing!!! In his free time Emanuel enjoys spending time at Karaoke bars, and he would like to pursue a career in singing and performing at some point in his future. He's known to be headstrong, to speak his mind, and to sometimes be downright rude. Well, all I can say about that is that the first two are good virtues to have ... and the third ... well, we all have bad days every now and then, and personally, he was nice, friendly and polite to everyone whenever I met him, so go figure. In Canada, Emanuel has been one of the brightest stars in men's singles skating for years. He placed second at the Canadian National Championships five times ... in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, and 2005, and has been Canadian Champion three times, in 2001, 2003, and 2004!!!
