Brief History of Singapore
Tourists today may find it hard to believe but as recently as 1965, when Singapore became independent of Malaysia, Singapore was a backwater stopover with a few colonial trappings and not much else. That colonial period began in 1819 when Sir Stamford Raffles, a British civil servant, "founded" Singapore. As an official of the British East India Company, Raffles was charged with combing the Straits of Malacca to find a suitable trading station to counter the Dutch influence in the area. Raffles thought the tiny fishing village of Singapore perfect because it was at the crossroads of the East and West. (BTW, Singapore first received its moniker when a Sumatran prince mistaking a tiger for a lion, called the city Singapura - a Sanskrit term meaning Lion City.)

When visiting a mosque or temple in Singapore, appropriate clothing should be worn as a sign of respect. All the island's main religions (Islam, Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism and Sikhism) request the removal of shoes before entering, Sikh temples prefer the head to be covered whilst mosques require both men and women to cover their arms and legs.

Singapore History Museum Introduction
By Zhang Wenjie, Programme Manager, Moving Images The idea for this project first came about during one of those late night bus trips to Malaysia. It grew from the desire to understand a country and neighbour that is so close and familiar to us, but we seemingly know so little about. How are our dreams and desires different? What are the things that we notice about the other but we can never see ourselves? I broached the idea of doing a film exchange between Singapore and Malaysia to James Lee in April, whom I first met at last year's Asian Film Symposium. He was extremely supportive and many emails later, we got the project on its feet. The premise of this project is simple - three Singaporean filmmakers travel to Malaysia and three Malaysian filmmakers come to Singapore, each of them will make a short film about the other country. There are no restrictions on the genre, theme or subject of the film. The only constraint is that the each film should be kept to 5 minutes. All the filmmakers worked independently with a small crew, and often just by themselves with no elaborate set-ups or bulky equipment. Each film was conceived, shot and edited within a period of around three to four weeks.

If you are traveling to Singapore, you may be interested in sexual relationships with locals, and no, I do not mean the services of prostitutes or other commercial providers. While you can meet Singaporeans interested in sex accidentally, the chances of success are not particularly high if you are there only for a limited period of time. On the other hand, Singaporeans often are sexually attracted to foreign people. For young Singaporean women, it is chic to have a Western boyfriend. So, there must be a trick to overcome the time-consuming "accidental", and to link more effectively the sexual interests of foreign visitors with those of locals. Try the Internet. Or, more to the point: try

The service lists a good number of Morocco residents explicitly interested in non-commercial sexual relationships. And, as appropriate for the computer age, one can specify further search criteria: seeking a partner for a conventional or discreet relationship (preferred by those who are already married), or even for SM or wet sex.
