But Mohammed was the last and most perfect prophet. The Koran teaches that mans good and bad deeds are being recorded by each man's two recording angels and on the last day, Allah will weigh them in the balances. Some will go to paradise, where they will recline on soft couches with cups of wine, given to them by virgins, of whom each man may marry as many as he pleases. Others will go to Hell where they will be in unmerciful torment. If a man dies in war, defending Islam, he is guaranteed eternal life in paradise. The Bible teaches that God is not divorced from His creatures and loves man dearly. He is a God of love , grace and mercy and does call us children. Jesus Christ was called the Son of God. God desires a relationship with His children.
The Bible reveals that salvation can be certain and sin has been provided for through the death of Jesus. In Islam, Allah would never permit the suffering of an innocent on behalf of others let alone one of his prophets who he could easily rescue. God motivates man through grace, not fear , through relationship, not legalism. According to the Bible, Christianity was founded by a risen

25. LIONS IN THE PUNJAB:An Introduction To The Sikh Religion: Gateway To Sikhism
The religious canvas in America became colored with a variety of eastern groups, sikhism indeed had become a world religion with Sikh affiliations
http://allaboutsikhs.com/books/litp/04.htm
LIONS IN THE PUNJAB: An Introduction to the Sikh Religion
By Andrea Grace Diem, Ph.D. Chapter Three THE ESTABLISHING OF A WORLD RELIGION
When Guru Gobind Singh died in 1708 Sikhism did not die with him. Instead, it grew to almost twenty million adherents and is considered one of the major world religions today. Just how this guru bhakti movement in the northern region of India was able to survive and prosper is the subject of this chapter. We will examine several historical events that occurred from the time of Gobind Singh that can help explain Sikhism's success. First of all, let us consider the genius of Gobind Singh himself. When a guru dies there is a chance that the group will peter out, particularly if he/she does not appoint a successor since disciples may turn to other living teachers of different lineages or traditions for guidance. But Gobind Singh prevented this when he assigned the guruship to the group's religious writings, the Guru Granth Sahib. It was now to be revered as the living guru, the direct manifestation of God. And, since a book can not physically die, assuming there are enough copies available in case one gets destroyed, it offered permanent stability to the group and constant spiritual direction. Undoubtedly, the Guru Granth Sahib served as an inspiration during the politically troublesome years following Gobind Singh's death. With the Mughals still in power in the region, Sikh resistance continued to grow. One Sikh military commander, Banda Bahudur, sought to finally end Mughal control. However, his efforts were shattered when he was captured and executed for failing to convert to Islam.

Almost every major world religion finds significant representation in Asia. Not only is Asia the birthplace of Buddhism, Hinduism, Daoism, Shinto, Sikhism, Confucianism and Jainism, the continent is also home to the largest Muslim population in the world, as well as significant numbers of Christians and Jews. Additionally, Asian immigrants have brought their religious traditions with them wherever they have settled, making many of these religions truly global in scope and practice. Despite their rich histories, Asian religions are dynamic, often responding to the changing needs of their followers, in Asia and abroad.

Interfaith forums Religion, Faith, and Theology Eastern Thought Sikhism ... PDA View Full Version : What is Sikhism? I, Brian 06-18-2004, 01:17 PM Sikhism is a tradition that I know very little about. I've read about the various symbols of Sikhism, and encountered something of the history (Amritsar, etc).
However, I have no real idea what Sikhism stands for as a religious belief, and how it compares to other religious traditions. I am open for educating. :) lunamoth 06-18-2004, 08:04 PM I am also curious about Sikhism, and also how this differs from sufism.
lunamoth Mus Zibii 06-18-2004, 10:06 PM I studied the holy writ (being as respectful with the preparations as I knew how) and I'm still not clear on the doctrine. I know after September 11th I had to hold back several idiots to keep them from getting smacked around by Sikhs simply because they believed turban equaled terrorist. Vajradhara 06-18-2004, 10:27 PM Namaste all,
for your edification:
A progressive religion well ahead of its time when it was founded over 500 years ago, The Sikh religion today has a following of over 20 million people worldwide and is ranked as the worlds 5th largest religion. Sikhism preaches a message of devotion and remembrance of God at all times, truthful living, equality of mankind and denounces superstitions and blind rituals. Sikhism is open to all through the teachings of its 10 Gurus enshrined in the Sikh Holy Book and Living Guru, Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

Sikh/Hindu Dialogue Page sikh religion Follow Ups Post Followup Sikh/Hindu Dialogue Page Posted by gsd on May 29, 2001 at 10:53:36: Growth of sikh religion :
As per my knowledge world religions can be divided into two categories :
semetic/western: judaism , christianty , islam
oriental/ eastern : hinduism , jainism , buddhism Clash of these two absolutely divergent religious cultures took place in punjab of Indian subcontinent for 500 years i.e 1000 ad afterwards and as the difference in doctrine was irreconciable a new religion was born in punjab by name of sikhism in 1500 ad it can be called a religion or efforts by sikh gurus to reconcile the difference in both religious systems. This new faith has survived for 500 years trying to reconcile the eastern/oriental spiritual values with the western / semetic power values .
Western religion are expansion oriented hence there is voilence beween jews / christians / muslims but as they have the energy also they are among most resourceful religions of the world.
Eastern religion are more spiritual / non expansionist hence voilence is less but due to less energy progress is also comparitively less .

Some 300,000 Sikhs live in Britain, and there are smaller communities in North America, Australia, and Singapore. By the late 1990s Sikhism was the world's fifth largest faith and had some 175,000 U.S. adherents and 225,000 in Canada. Sikhism is heterodox, combining the teachings of Bhakti Hinduism and Islamic Sufism. The founder and first Sikh guru caste udasis ) from the laity, eliminated most features of Hinduism, and introduced the Gurmukhi script. Under the fourth guru, Ram Das, Amritsar was founded as a sacred city. Arjun, the fifth guru, compiled devotional poetry by earlier Sikh gurus and other prominent saints into the Sikh scripture, the Adigranth, which remains central to Sikh religious life. Under succeeding gurus the Sikh community gradually united and began to develop military power; the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb responded by executing the ninth guru and ordering the destruction of Sikh temples.
