I welcome comments from knowledgeable readers. Should you have a suggested correction, please specify the source of your information. I am most interested in information from primary sources, particularly laws and the reports of monetary authorities.
Notes So far the tables for Africa, Asia, and Australia/Pacific are finished, though they are subject to revision. "Present" refers to 2005 in the tables of monetary authorities.

African countries that have had various types of monetary authorities Systems with competitive issue of the monetary base Free bankingCompetitive issue by banks of notes (paper money) and deposits with few special regulations. Besides these episodes, there was also limited competition in Mozambique (1919-42*). Botswana (1897) and Nigeria (sometime 1899-1912) had episodes of note issue by a single bank either too brief or not extensive enough to usefully classify as free banking. About Seychelles
Click here to see a map of the Seychelles. The Seychelles is an unspoilt tropical paradise thousands of miles from anywhere. Here you will find magnificent palm-fringed beaches, superb snorkelling and diving, and plenty of forested wilderness filled with wildlife. The Seychelles are made up of three parts, Mahé, Fregate and Praslin. Victoria is on the island of Mahé and is one of the smallest capital cities in the world, and the only major port in the Seychelles. While in Victoria you should visit The Natural History Museum which contains the bones of the extinct Seychelles crocodile. The National History Museum, which displays the history of the country's people. Victoria's Botanical Gardens are a beautiful sight. Victoria is also great for it’s up-market restaurants. About 3km west of Victoria is Beau Vallon Beach. It is one of the largest and most popular beaches in the Seychelles. The waves can sometimes be large, as there is a big break in the reef. The nicest area for swimming and snorkelling is opposite tiny Île Souris, on the east coast. On the west coast, Anse Soleil and Anse Petite Police are also beautiful. Here you will see palm-fringed beaches, boulders to dive or snorkel from and an abundance of spectacular marine life.

SEYCHELLES - S7 ICAO CODE: SEY 061 CALLSIGN: Seychelles WEBSITE: Air Seychelles was formed as the national airline in 1979 after a government merger of Air Mahe and Inter Island Airways, both domestic airlines. The two former airline's fleets and services were taken over to start the new flag carrier with Britten-Norman Islanders and Trislanders. In 1983 international flights to London and Frankfurt began using a Douglas DC-10 chartered from BCAL. Two years later the airline used an Air France Airbus A300 in full Air Seychelles livery for widened routes to Europe as the tourist trade expanded. The airline ordered Boeing 767-200s to replace the leased aircraft and used Boeing 707s briefly while awaiting the new wide-body jets. regional island services were flown with Twin Otters. In 1993 the airline introduced a medium-haul Boeing 757 but replace it quickly with a Boeing 767-300ER jet.

Government
Constitutional restrictions, introduced after the 1977 coup, on political organization outside the then-ruling SPUP (see above) were lifted in 1991. The president holds executive power, while legislation is in the hands of the National Assembly, presently comprising 34 members, 25 directly elected and nine allocated on a proportional basis. Both the president and the National Assembly are subject to direct popular elections every five years.

Apatite fission track analysis (AFTA ), combined with VR (vitrinite reflectance) data, has been used to directly measure the timing, intensity and regional variation of multiple paleo-thermal events across northern Alaska in this study. AFTA provides direct measurement of the timing and magnitude of the paleo-thermal episodes responsible for maturity development and hydrocarbon generation, while VR data also provide control on the maximum paleotemperature. The paleotemperature estimates derived from AFTA and VR also provide quantitative constraints on paleogeothermal gradients, paleo-heat flow and amounts of section removed during exhumation.
West African Margin
Despite significant exploration success in the last five years along the West African margin, the margin remains under-explored and basic questions about the petroleum systems remain unanswered. Key questions relate to the unroofing (or uplift) history and the corresponding thermal history of the margin, in relation to its effect on hydrocarbon maturation history, and sources and distribution of reservoirs. This study is designed to answer those key questions on a broad regional basis by providing a comprehensive thermal history framework and exhumation history for the margin from Gabon to Namibia. Samples from wells in the offshore region, and from both wells and outcrops onshore will be included in this vast regional study

of Seychelles
Background:
Some say that the uninhabited islands of Seychelles were sighted by Vasco de Gama in 1502, however recorded landings did not occur until 1609. In 1756 the French made a formal claim to the islands.
Settlement began in 1778 under a French military administration but barely survived its first decade.
A lengthy struggle between France and Great Britain for the islands ended in 1814, when they were ceded to the latter. Seychelles and Mauritius were given to England by the Treaty of Paris in 1814. During the 19th century, chinese and indian tradesmen, together with former slaves settled in the island. They founded their own colony seperated from the Crown in 1903.

Unit Four Regional Perspectives
Module Nineteen: East Africa
Teacher's Edition
PURPOSE
The purpose of Module Nineteen is to introduce students to the region called East Africa. East Africa is a vast area encompassing the countries of Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, Djibouti, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Seychelles, and Comoros. As with other regions of Africa (see Introduction to Module Twenty: Regional Perspectives ), the countries that are included in East Africa can vary somewhat depending on whom you talk to. Some of the countries listed here can also fit into the regions of Central, Southern, or Northern Africa. But for the sake of this module, we will refer to East Africa as the twelve countries listed above. Activity One: The Region Called East Africa gives a brief overview of the history of the region, highlighting human origins, early kingdoms, trade routes, European colonialism, and postcolonial states. In this activity, students should get a sense of the rich history of this region and its connectedness to other regions in Africa and the rest of the world. The activity ends by discussing intra-regional political and economic organizations in East Africa, giving COMESA as one example. Activity Two: The Geography of East Africa deals with some of the geographical differences between East African subregions. The region of East Africa can be further broken down into three subregions—The Horn of Africa (Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, and Djibouti), the Great Lakes Region (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi), and islands in the Indian Ocean (Seychelles and Comoros). The different vegetations, water availabilities, topographies, and population densities in these regions are discussed. Also, the impact of tourism on the East African enviroment is discussed.
