About Seventh-day Adventists
The Walla Walla College Church
The Seventh-day Adventist Church was founded in the mid-19th century by a group of Christians whose study of the Bible led to a belief in the soon return of Christthe advent. The group members also accepted the teaching of the Seventh-day Sabbath and eventually became known as Seventh-day Adventists. The church formally organized in 1863. Today, the Seventh-day Adventist Church has more than 13 million members around the world, and is especially known for its work in health care and education. The church operates one of the largest Protestant educational systems in the world, comprised of more than 5,000 schools (including more than 90 colleges and universities). As a Seventh-day Adventist college, the beliefs, practices and mission observed at Walla Walla College are rooted in the biblical principles of worship to God and service to mankind. Religion courses are an integral part of the general studies curriculum, and students are required to attend selected worships and weekly chapel services. Optional religious and service activities include small group worships, community outreach and serving as a student missionary volunteer. Observance of the seventh-day Sabbath is a distinctive practice on campus and a key aspect of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. From sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday, there are no classes, and the library and other offices are closed to allow the campus community to observe the Sabbath.

The Seventh-day Adventists appeared in Ukraine in 1847 in southwestern Ukraine’s Chernivtsi region, where M. Chekhovskyi was the first preacher. In 1876, in northwestern Ukraine’s Rivne region, the first small group of believers was formed. In 1886, Pastor Lui Konrad baptized a group of people in Crimea, who established the first community of Seventh-day Adventists (SDA). In 1898, L. Konrad became head of the European Conference. In 1906, SDA communities were officially recognized in the Russian Empire. In 1931, the SDA organization was liquidated by the Soviet regime. The SDA resumed its activities during Perestroika. The Ukrainian Union Conference (UUC) operates in Ukraine today. It consists of 8 regional conferences. The UUC-SDA has been headed by Volodymyr Krupskyi since 1998. There is a seminary of the SDA in Kyiv. Adventists publish 2 newspapers and 4 magazines, of which the magazine “Oznaky chasu” (Signs of the time) is the main one. The SDA Church pays special attention to medical and prevention programs: numerous funds are invested to develop a worldwide net of medical centers, educational institutions, sanatoriums, and so on. The Adventist Medical Association of Ukraine incorporates about 700 qualified medical workers; there is an international medical center in Kyiv with branches in Poltava, Kovel, Lviv and a sanatorium in Mykolaiv.

Seventh-day Adventist Church in Ivano-Frankivsk Repeatedly Vandalized
04.01.2005, [17:08] // SDA // Ivano-Frankivsk- A church of the Seventh-day Adventists in western Ukrainian Ivano-Frankivsk was vandalized on 30 December 2004. At about 9 in the evening, unknown vandals broke seven windows. This was the third attack on the church in December. In 2004, the windows of the Seventh-day Adventist church were broken six times. When the faithful file complaints with the police, the police answer that this is an everyday matter and they are not planning to become involved in it. Witnesses say that young people from 13 to 17 years of age break the windows. When they break the windows, the teenagers shout “Sectarians!” The faithful suppose that their parents encourage the children to this aggression.
The church of the Seventh-day Adventists in Ivano-Frankivsk was built 10 years ago. At the end of 2004, the local faithful celebrated the jubilee of its opening.

This hard-hitting, eye opening documentary explores the teaching of the Seventh-day Adventist Church , it's origins and the changes which have occurred throughout the years. It examines the claims of the religion's founder, the late prophetess Ellen G. White , and compares her unique beliefs with Biblical truth.
You will meet a number of former high-ranking church leaders, many of them fourth generation members, and discover what happened when they embarked on a journey to uncover the truth about their organization. You will be shocked by what they found. (click here for ordering info) "For those who may agree or for those who strongly disagree, viewers of this documentary will find it a most fascinating exploration into the cultic aspects of the teachings of Ellen G. White. Recommended for Christians who seek genuine answers based on the best scholarship and firm adherence to the truths of God's Word." - Dr. James Kennedy, Ph.D.

Christian apologists and countercult experts disagree on whether or not Seventh-day Adventism (SDA) should be classified as, theologically, a cult of Christianity
Some state that while SDA includes a number of doctrines that are outside the mainstraim of historic Christian theology, Seventh-day Adventists do accept the essential doctrines of the Christian faith and should thus be considered Christians. For example, the late Walter Martin , founder of the Christian Research Institute said,
...it is perfectly possible to be a Seventh-day Adventists and be a true follower of Jesus Christ despite heterodox concepts... Walter Martin, Kingdom of the Cults (Bethany House, Minneapolis, Minnesota), Updated edition 1997, p.517. (Note: See also this interview with Walter Martin.

A look at the origins and history of the seventh day Adventist Church.

The History of the Seventh Day Adventist Church
Modern Seventh Day Adventism traces its origins back to the early 1800's to Mr. William Miller (1782-1849) of Low Hampton, New York. Mr. Miller had converted from deism to Christianity in 1816 and became a Baptist. He was an avid reader, dedicated to God's word, and sought to reconcile apparent biblical difficulties raised by deists. He relied heavily on the Cruden's Concordance in his studies and developed a focus on the imminent return of Jesus. He began preaching at the age of 50.
The time was right. America was hot with discussions on the return of Christ. As a result, many thousands (called Millerites) accepted his idea that Jesus would return in the year covering 1843-1844. He had arrived at this date based upon a study of Daniel 8:14 which says, "And he said to me, "For 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the holy place will be properly restored." He interpreted the 2300 evenings and mornings to be years and counted forward from 457 BC when the commandment to rebuild Jerusalem was given (Dan. 9:24-25).
