The Internet has more than a billion webpages. How can parents and kids find the safe and entertaining sites among all the clutter? We can help. Every week we add new and wonderful Web sites to our list of safe sites. Some also have received special awards from us for being the best of the web. Others are educational. Some are just fun. But all have passed our privacy and safety review. Looking for dinosaur sites for your four year old? No problem. You can search by age, or by subject. Check back often, as we are always adding more sites. And if you want to help us find and review great sites for kids and families, volunteer by visiting WiredSafety.org's home page. (WiredKids.org is one of the WiredSafety.org's family of sites and programs.) While we take special care to make sure that all sites on our list have passed our privacy and safety scrutiny, and are appropriate in subject matter for the ages listed, sometimes Web sites change hands, and domain names are transferred. In addition, Web sites may change their content and privacy practices.

Children are used to the huge possibilities of the internet. Internet is part of their lives and their expectation of the possibilities is growing. Therefore it is very important that both parents and teachers are sufficiently aware about these possibilities but also about the risks that are involved. The amount of pornograpic and racism related material is dramatically increasing on the web. Kids can be faced with this offensive and shocking material while surfing the web. A recent survey showed that over half of the parents worry about this situation. And the way to right (or incidentally wrong) information often is initiated by search engines. Therefore Whitelines.net offers you a list of genuine child friendly search engines. These services are (in all cases) directories with human compiled and reviewed information. Information that is safe for kids and families.

Welcome to CyberSleuthkids.Com, an online search engine and guide for the K-12 The goal of CyberSleuth-kids is to provide a safe educational online
    http://www2.sd43.bc.ca/Nestor/safesearch.htm

"Safe" Search Engines The following Gateways and Search Engines are filtered to eliminate as many of the objectionable or inappropriate websites as possible.
However, there are still some basic facts you need to know:

    1. At school, you must have a District A.U.P. letter signed by your parents and given to your teacher in order to be allowed to use any of the search engines listed below. 2. At school, you must ALWAYS have a designated "Internet Supervision Teacher" in the room with you when you are on the Internet. 2. It is always YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to choose appropriate sites.
No filtering device is perfect! 3. If you happen upon an inappropriate device, you must:
    (a) immediately click the back button
    (b) immediately notify the teacher on duty . 4. Filtered sites are checked but the sites that they link to may not be. This does not mean that they are inappropriate, just that they may not have been reviewed. Check with your teacher to see if you are allowed to go more than one link deep. If you do not know what "more than one link" means, ask your teacher BEFORE going onto one of the sites below! With that in mind... ENJOY searching and surfing!
