[SDL] multithreaded programming
Bob Pendleton sdl@libsdl.org
Wed Nov 12 14:34:01 2003 bob, thanks for the pointers. part of my rationale for multithreading is that multi-processor systems would benefit (greatly?) from this technique. but the other aspect is that i'm trying to figure out a nice scheme for interrupting operations and a seperate thread that gets a signal sounds like a potentially clean way of doing things. rather than having to slap UI checking code in my process loops, i'd like to just set up signal trapping and have the main UI code run in a seperate thread from the processing code to handle user interrupts and such. this leads me to my next question. obviously i'd rather tell a thread to ought to have some means of sending signals to threads, but i haven't come across any. does the SDL_Thread handle have enough information to extract the appropriate information to use OS specific signal handling? is signal

Easy Linux GUI Graphic Programming:
Standard linux toolkits / GUI versions
Linux programming of a modern and innovative human - machine interface is easy, if you use a standard linux graphical user interface (GUI) toolkit. The linux world offers a lot of differernt embedded GUI versions - especially designed for using at small embedded terminals. Most of these GUI versions need a framebuffer device. This framebuffer device is available for most of the SSV TRM / linux systems. In our aim to make your development more easier again, we specially prepared some preconfigured embedded GUI versions for you, in fact: Microwindows, FLTK and SDL. Software support for these versions are inside our startup packages or FTP download area. Microwindows / Nano-X Microwindows is a GUI / GPL project which brings features of modern windows programming directly to embedded systems and to smaller PC based devices. It uses a small X-server - named Nano-X server. More information at

Presentation at VM '04: Data Race Detection Method for Java Program

Fig.1 Data-race detection by a conventional method Fig.2 Developed data-race detection method Fig.3 Performance evaluation (All Figures: click to enlarge) was held at the Hyatt San Jose, San Jose, USA over two days from May 6 to 7 2004. It was the third time this international symposium had been held. Although the two previous symposia dealt with the topics specialized to Java Virtual Machines (Java VM), in view of the strong anticipation regarding various virtualization technologies for OS and computer resources, the scope of the third symposium was expanded to cover a wide range of areas, including OS virtualization and Virtual Grids. Systems Development Laboratory, Hitachi, Ltd. presented a paper titled "Detecting Data Races Using Dynamic Escape Analysis Based on Read Barrier." A part of our fundamental research on the reliability of Java Virtual Machines, this paper described an error-detection method for the increasingly used Java program. As regards a programming languagesuch as Javathat supports multi-thread execution, programming errors concerning exclusive access control between threads can occur easily. In the case that exclusive access control is not performed correctly, the resulting error is called a "data race", and it is well known that a data race is difficult to detect and correct. Although it is known as a method for detecting errors related to data races, the "lock-set algorithm" faces the problem that it incurs a high runtime overhead (namely, the program-monitoring time) when executed by conventional methods.

net-bubble multiplayer ability. The game is written in portable C/ ANSI and uses SDL SDL official site I made the game programming and first designs of Pix. All the rest of the graphics have been achieved by the talented infographist Cécile Hayez . The game features offer the ability to play alone in an exciting full-colored adventure game. It also includes the ability to play against another human player or CPU in an exciting deathmatch. The 2 player mode can be played locally, across LAN or Internet The current version of the game is net-bubble 0.9.1 . It has been released on September 28th, 2004. The license of net-bubble is a bit particular as the game is still in development. When it will be completely finished, it will probably get a GPL license. At the moment, you can only download, view, compile the source code and modify it for you own use. Nevertheless, any release (commercial or not) must be agreed first by the authors.
About the game
The object of the game is to link up more than 2 similar coloured bubbles together in order to remove them from the screen.

Hello and welcome to this neat little tutorial, whose version number is one unit bigger than the last tutorial's! In this tutorial you will learn how to load and display images inside your SDL progams/games/demos/etc. In this tutorial I will go through the source code (almost) line-by-line, trying to explain what each part of the code does as we go along. The program we will make today is really simple: we draw a nice background and then a cube on it that you can move with the keyboard.

By Thiadmer Riemersma / ITB CompuPhase- This paper discusses how axonometric projections may be used in computer graphics, multimedia applications and computer games. It compares the axonometric projection, or parallel perspective, to the linear perspective, lists the major properties and tackles some implementation details. The focus of this paper is on the isometric and dimetric projections, the most widely used varieties of the axonometric projection. This paper also presents two dimetric projections that are suitable for (tiled) computer graphics.
