68. Scuba Diving Classes In The Silicon Valley - Learn To Dive With Frogdivers, Teac
Independent instructors teaching the YMCA scuba program for all levels of recreational diving in silicon valley.

Learn to scuba dive in the silicon valley !!
Do you want to experiment local dives in Monterey ? It's the number one spot in the US for Kelp diving. Or do you want to scuba dive while on vacation in the caribbean but don't want to spend the first four days in a classroom ?
We have a solution for you !! We are independent scuba instructors who can teach you all levels of recreational scuba diving from the openwater certification to Divemaster. So unlike most scuba diving instructors, we are not employed by a scuba diving store so we won't pressure you into buying equipment. We teach the YMCA scuba program , the oldest scuba diving agency in the US. In the 45 years since its inception, YMCA SCUBA continues to provide the highest level of community-oriented education for divers and instructors based on the principles of the YMCA.
Our goal is to teach you in the safest way. When teaching in the pool or in the ocean, we keep small classes with no more than 6 students in each class !! Compare that to other schools with classes where you will be sometimes up to twenty students at the same time in the pool or the ocean. Furthermore, with us, for 6 students in the water, you will have not one but TWO instructors ! Try to find this quality of service elsewhere. This small number of students in each class and the very low student/instructor ratio allow us to provide what we feel is the best quality of instruction.
Not sure you want to take a class to learn scuba diving ? We have a program for you:

SECTION B
Recreational Scuba Diving: An Overview
WHAT DOES 'SCUBA' STAND FOR? Scuba is an acronym for 'self-contained underwater breathing apparatus'. There are several ways one can go under water (breath-hold, helmet diving, submarine, etc.). "Diving with scuba" signifies using apparatus that is completely carried by the diver and not connected to the surface, hence self-contained. HOW POPULAR IS SCUBA DIVING? An estimated 2.5-3.5 million Americans participate in recreational scuba diving. Another 500 thousand become certified each year in the United States. In the early days of scuba diving (roughly 1950-1970), participants were predominately young men. Today the sport is enjoyed by people in all age groups and both sexes. And why not? Just about any teenager or adult who enjoys the water and can swim, and who does not have heart or lung impairment, can learn to scuba dive. It does not take great physical strength or unusual exercise tolerance. All it takes is the desire, plus some basic classroom and in-water training. Scuba originally began with military and commercial applications, where it is still employed. However, by far its widest use, in terms of number of participants, is recreational. Recreational scuba today is like other any other sport that requires specialized equipment and training, such as snow skiing, sailing, mountain climbing and horseback riding. This section will provide an overview of recreational scuba diving, and explain how it differs from other forms of diving with scuba equipment.

SCUBA Diving History
The following SCUBA history is extracted from the Third Quarter 1999 issue of The Undersea Journal, published by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI). Henry Fleuss invents the first practical self-contained dive apparatus using the closed-circuit principle-oxygen in a reservoir replaces oxygen consumed by the diver while a caustic soda absorbs the carbon dioxide. French physiologist Paul Bert completes his pioneering work on breathing under hyperbaric conditions. He recognizes that "caisson disease" is identical to problems experienced by deep sea divers and suggests that the release of dissolved nitrogen from the bloodstream causes the problem. He also shows that oxygen can become toxic under pressure. Louis Boutan develops the first underwater camera and shoots the first underwater photographs. He also invents the first underwater photographic lights, and uses them to make the first underwater photograph using artificial light in 1899. The following year, he writes the first book on underwater photography, La Photographie Sous-Marine. The United States Navy publishes its first dive manual
