SCSI Last modified: Monday, September 20, 2004 s mall c omputer s ystem i nterface , a parallel interface standard used by Apple Macintosh computers PCs , and many UNIX systems for attaching peripheral devices to computers . Nearly all Apple Macintosh computers, excluding only the earliest Macs and the recent iMac , come with a SCSI port for attaching devices such as disk drives and printers SCSI interfaces provide for faster data transmission rates (up to 80 megabytes per second) than standard serial and parallel ports . In addition, you can attach many devices to a single SCSI port, so that SCSI is really an I/O bus rather than simply an interface.

    http://phys.columbia.edu/~cqft/qcdsp/qcdsp_hdw.htm
Description of the QCDSP Architecture and Technology
INTRODUCTION Given the enormous computational demands of quantum field theory and the easily parallelized nature of this problem, it is natural to design and build massively parallel machines, whose design is optimized for this class of calculation. Beginning in the March 1993, a collaboration of physicists and engineers, centered at Columbia, began the design of a digital signal processor (DSP) based machine with this objective. Here we describe the architecture and implementation of what has grown into a series of computers ranging from 64-node, 3 Gflops machines to a 8,192-node, 400 Gflops machine at Columbia and a 12,288-node, 600 Gflops machine now begin constructed at the RIKEN Brookhaven Research Center at the Brookhaven National Laboratory. The processors in each of these machines are interconnected as a four-dimensional mesh with nearest neighbor connections. For example, the Columbia machine is a 16x16x8x4 mesh. Each processor or node is made up of a Texas Instruments DSP, 0.5Mwords of error-corrected memory and a gate array providing memory management and inter-node communication. The Columbia machine cost approximately $1.8M to construct over the past two years (it would cost about $1.2M at present component prices) implying a cost performance advantage of more than ten-fold over present commercial machines.

This document contains the hardware compatibility notes for FreeBSD 5.4-RELEASE on the UltraSPARC hardware platform (also referred to as FreeBSD/sparc64 5.4-RELEASE). It lists devices known to work on this platform, as well as some notes on boot-time kernel customization that may be useful when attempting to configure support for new devices. Note: This document includes information specific to the UltraSPARC hardware platform. Versions of the hardware compatibility notes for other architectures will differ in some details.
    2 Supported Systems
This section describes the systems currently known to be supported by FreeBSD on the UltraSPARC platform. For background information on the various hardware designs see the Sun System Handbook SMP is supported on all systems with more than 1 processor. If you have a system that is not listed here, it may not have been tested with FreeBSD 5.4-RELEASE. We encourage you to try it and send a note to the FreeBSD SPARC porting mailing list with your results, including which devices work and which do not.

This FAQ is based on information gathered from the relevent comp.sys.amiga.* and demon.tech.amiga newsgroups, FTP and WWW sites and my own personal experience. Others are reworks of questions that have come up ICPUG SE meetings and while I've been giving technical support. Some questions have links mainly to files on the Aminet or pages on other sites. In the cases of Aminet links, most files will be in the hard/hack directory. The questions have be sorted under headings for easier access: If you have any information to add or correct please e-mail it to me webmaster@basil.u-net.com

    Q. How do I add a second internal floppy drive to my A2000? A. You will need to physically mount the drive in its bay. Then connect the Power and Data cables. Then you must then close J301. Q. Can the A4000[T] support 8 Meg of CHIP RAM? A. There is a jumper (J213) on the mother board which sets the SIMM type for CHIP RAM. This can be set to 8 Meg, but the Alice, and the rest of the AGA chip set, does not yet support 8 Meg of CHIP RAM. Q. Are the Zorro II/III slots parallel? How are they powered up?
