    http://ibis.nott.ac.uk/guidelines/ch11/chap1-1-E-4.html
    E. Kaleida and ScriptX Kaleida Labs Inc is another Apple/IBM joint venture. It is developing ScriptX , a cross-platform multimedia programming language and object library, now beta testing and designed to make multi-platform software development much easier. The vision behind ScriptX is briefly this: that applications can be created on any of the supported authoring platforms (Mac, Windows OS/2 and UNIX ) and, irrespective of which one a particular application was created on, it can be played back on any platform for which runtimes exist (currently Mac, Windows OS/2 UNIX and certain consumer devices). ScriptX is not an authoring system, and Kaleida is not currently planning to develop one for it. However, Apple's recently announced multimedia authoring environment SpecialK will apparently be able to output ScriptX . Macromedia (the producers of Authorware Professional and Macromind Director ) has also announced support for ScriptX , and the language has been endorsed by all the hardware manufacturers who have joined the Kaleida Hardware Alliance, including Apple, IBM, Hitachi, Toshiba, Mitsubishi and Creative Technologies.

    MMDEVX - AMK/ScriptX Discussion List
MMDEVX is a mailing list for people interested in crossplatform multimedia development tools in general and Apple Media Kit (AMK) and Kaleida ScriptX in particular. Apple's Media Tool and Media Tool Programming Environment promise to be a good multimedia authoring environment. Kaleida Labs - an Apple/IBM joint venture - is about to release beta ScriptX code, an object oriented platform independent multimedia development and delivery tool. AMT is expected to be compatible with ScriptX in the near future, though this is not a certainty at the moment. If you are currently working with AMT/AMTPE or intend to do so and you are curious about ScriptX and want to talk about issues concerning these, this list is for you. To subscribe, send the following command to: Mail-Server@knex.mind.org SUBSCRIBE MMDEVX FirstName LastName Note that the Subject: header line is ignored. The Computer Science Department offers a B.S. degree in Computer Science and an M.S. and a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science. These programs provide the basis for careers in research and development in the computer science field as well as technical and nontechnical related fields that are dependent on a working knowledge of computers. The Computer Science major has been designed to provide the student with a broad background in science and humanities and to provide an understanding of fundamental principles of computing and modern computing technology. It prepares the student for professional work with computer systems as well as for graduate work in computer science. Each Computer Science major is assigned a Departmental Advisor who assists the student in formulating educational goals and who monitors the student's subsequent progress in an academic program. Each quarter a study list must be approved by this advisor and filed by the student in the Department office.

The Electrical Engineering program at UCR is one of the newest in the country. The curriculum is accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology. It reflects the latest significant technological advancements and is supported by well-equipped laboratories with the most advanced equipment. Faculty are world-class educators and researchers dedicated to undergraduate teaching. Two features of the undergraduate program are small class size with close faculty-student interaction, and research opportunities for undergraduates. Students may choose from among the following focus areas: circuits, signals, and communication; control, robotics, and manufacturing; and intelligent systems. During their freshman year, all engineering students follow a generally common curriculum, and do not specify an engineering major. By the beginning of the sophomore year, students select their engineering major and begin appropriate course work.

All his pending fixes and unsent e-mails an electronic record of hours of drudgery punctuated by flashes of inspiration were vaporized. Zawinski screamed. He pounded his fists and knocked over his computer. His chair, now a four-legged projectile, flew across the room. He put on his coat and left. "I was pretty sure I had just quit," said the young programmer, whose goatee, partially shaven head with braids-cum-dreadlocks, and uncensored outlook on life made him something of a hero to his coding colleagues. ("We all enter this world in the same way: naked; screaming; soaked in blood," reads the epigraph that begins Zawinski's personal home page on the Web. "But if you live your life right, that kind of thing doesn't have to stop there.")

    Kaleida
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Kaleida Labs was a company founded by IBM and Apple Computer in as part of their AIM alliance . The company was to create a new cross-platform multimedia programming language called ScriptX which was to be a way for developers to harness the power of the AIM alliance's new line of PowerPC desktop computers. Its initial charter was also to work on set-top box hardware and software. Kaleida was formed at the same time as Taligent , another joint venture intended to create a new operating system for the computers. ScriptX shipped in 1994 for Windows 3.1 and for Apple's System 7 . Versions had been announced for OS/2 and the new PReP line of computers, but were never released. It found few customers; only one known product ever shipped that was created with ScriptX - the CD ROM version of the Swedish National Encyclopedia , developed by Linn© Data of Gothenburg, Sweden. There was a second product as well, Robert Winter's Crazy for Ragtime Kaleida was closed down in . At the time, Apple apparently offered jobs to about two-thirds of the staff.
