Celtic mythology
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
A Celtic cross incorporating the Celtic knotwork motif associated with later Celtic cultures Celtic mythology is the mythology of Celtic polytheism , the apparent religion of the Iron Age Celts . Like other Iron Age Europeans, the early Celts maintained a polytheistic mythology and religious structure. Among Celtic peoples in close contact with Rome, such as the Gauls and Celtiberians , their mythology did not survive the Roman empire , their subsequegnt conversion to Christianity , and the loss of their Celtic languages, although ironically it is through contemporary Roman and Christian sources that what we do know of their beliefs has come down to us. In contrast, those Celtic peoples who maintained either their political or linguistic identities (such as the Gaels and Brythonic tribes of the British Isles ) did transmit at least vestigial remnants of the mythologies of their Iron Age forebears, which were often recorded in written form during the Middle Ages

Mythology, Folklore, and a little bit of Religion
Welcome! This page is essentially a massive list of links to sites about mythology, folklore, and religion. I've tried to sort them all by category, which has the advantage that it (theoretically, at any rate) makes it easier to find what you're looking for, but can lead to some pretty deeply nested subdivisions and also means that a lot of these pages do link to each other. There are links here to almost every relevant page I can find "almost" because there are a few things I don't have here: pages not in English, usenet sites, urban folklore and cyberlore sites, or any pages relating to "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys."
    Also, *please* mail me if
  • Any of my links have problems, are out of date, have moved, or whatever
  • You think I've mis-categorized something (always a possibility!)
  • You've got a site you'd like me to add to my list
  • I've got a link to your site and you wish I didn't
That's about it . . . happy mything!

(new website!) A Kelpie is a spirit in Scottish mythology who appears at the waterside disguised as a beautiful white horse. Once mounted the unsuspecting rider is taken to the bottom of the loch never to be seen again. In Norway it is the water troll "Nøkken" who lives in a lake, occasionally surfacing to lure people to their doom. Requires Quicktime 5 plugin ( get Quicktime Click on the photo

Touring regularly with the group NORLAND WIND (featuring Thomas Loefke and Padraig and Noel Duggan from CLANNAD), they discovered their mutual attraction towards musical experimentation, letting unusual harmonic textures and rhythms flirt with traditional Celtic and Scandinavian music. Ian`s exquisite fingerstyle guitar combined with Kerstin`s groovy plectrum technique is the basis of the special Kelpie sound.
