England, Scotland, Paris June 20 - July 7, 2001
Link to photos Yet another trip filled with adventure. This all started when a friend of our said they were deciding to something different for a wedding.... get married in Scotland. And the first question everybody asks is, "Are they from Scotland?" Well, the groom's family name is Scottish in origin, but that is as close as it gets. Mostly, it was just a fun thing to do. And it turned out great! It was also one last good trip for us alone before our baby boy was born. The trip getting there was typical. Most of the wedding party met in Pittsburg. 7 out of 9 that would be at the wedding. Bride, Groom, Groom's Parents, Groom's Brother, and Debbie and Brian. The Bride's childhood best friend and husband would be joining us later. We hung out in the bar and drank while waiting for our delayed plane. Well, most of us had a beer... Debbie was pregnant, so she did not partake. Finally the plane left (with 30 or so teenagers). It was a nice Airbus A330 with Video on Demand at each seat. We sat in a section that only had two seats next to a window, so the trip was relatively comfortable.

The North Of Scotland Tartan Army is a group of Scottish Football Supporters dedicated to following the Scottish Team both home and abroad. Although the club was only formed in 1997 many members are seasoned travellers and now, at every game Scotland participates in, one of our members will be present, literally flying the NOSTA flag. We have been formed for the sole purpose of following Scotland wherever in the World they play. NOSTA is based in Aberdeen but membership is open to anyone living in the North of Scotland. NOSTA is proud of the Tartan Army's reputation and traditions and it's members undertake, as best they can, to at all times when travelling abroad to behave in the appropriate manner. Which generally consists of wearing a kilt, walking in a drunken stagger and singing songs about English commentators. NOSTA runs free buses for members to all Scotland's home games which are still away in Glasgow. and organises events to help raise funds for the club. Although meetings are arranged from time to time NOSTA is pretty much run on an informal basis because, as every member of the Tartan Army knows chaoticism is in our blood!

This site is intended to offer ideas for cycle trips in and around SE Scotland and NE England. The routes are not graded in any way but comments should give some idea of their nature. They are not meant to be prescriptive but are just suggestions - obviously you can adapt them to suit your own needs.
latest route: Glentress
Comments on the routes would be welcome but what would be even more welcome are suggestions for other trips. Give plenty of detail and I'll be happy to update the site and give your contribution due recognition but, sadly, no fee...;-) If you could suggest links to other sites then that, too, would be helpful. Why not create a site for your own area, then we can all benefit? Comments/ideas to John Brewer email: johnb@REMOVEbikeroutes.org.uk

159. Biography: Margaret, Queen Of Scotland (16 Nov 1093)
Biographical profile. With prayer in traditional and contemporary language.
http://elvis.rowan.edu/~kilroy/JEK/11/16.html
Margaret, Queen of Scotland
16 November 1093
Margaret (born c. 1045) was the grand-daughter of Edmund Ironside, King of the English, but was probably born in exile in Hungary, and brought to England in 1057. After the Norman Conquest in 1066, she sought refuge in Scotland, where about 1070 she married the King, Malcolm III. She and her husband rebuilt the monastery of Iona and founded the Benedictine Abbey at Dunfermline. Margaret undertook to impose on the Scottish the ecclesiastical customs she had been accustomed to in England, customs that were also prevalent in France and Italy. But Margaret was not concerned only with ceremonial considerations. She encouraged the founding of schools, hospitals, and orphanages. She argued in favor of the practice of receiving the Holy Communion frequently. She was less successful in preventing feuding among Highland Clans, and when her husband was treacherously killed in 1093, she herself died a few days later (of grief, it is said). Prayer (traditional language) O God, who didst call thy servant Margaret to an earthly throne that she might advance thy heavenly kingdom, and didst give her zeal for thy church and love for thy people: Mercifully grant that we who commemorate her this day may be fruitful in good works, and attain to the glorious crown of thy saints; though Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
