Famous Actors Who have Written Science Fiction

This list is an attempt to list the most famous and influential science fiction/fantasy writers. Although this list certainly includes the giants of the field, such as Asimov, Heinlein, Card, and Clarke, it does not necessarily include all writers of outstanding literary merit. Some of the "famous" science fiction and fantasy writers on this list may be included because they have been particularly prolific or have had significant influence on the field. Obviously this is a somewhat subjective list, but a large variety of resources have been consulted : awards lists, historical commentaries, university literature course materials, best seller lists, internet portals and other web sites, etc. Most of these references have been summarized on the Famous Science Fiction Authors: Criteria Lists page A few people are included on this list because they are very famous and they have written science fiction/fantasy, but they aren't necessarily famous primarily for their SF/F writing. The authors in this category are Carl Sagan, Anne Perry, G. K. Chesterton, Stephen King, George Lucas, Deepak Chopra, Glen A. Larson, J. Michael Straczynski and Andrew Greeley.

Discussion
Many science fiction and fantasy writers are "non-religious" (or, more accurately, their "religion" is writing science fiction and fantasy in the strictly sociological sense of what constitutes an important motivation or community for them). Many other SF/F authors have stated a preference for secular philosophies such as atheism, agnosticism, and in some cases humanism. Some writers have a highly individualized religiosity or belief system which doesn't fit into into a traditional classification (e.g. Philip K. Dick). English language science fiction and fantasy authors who are adherents of traditional religious faiths usually belong to a branch of Christianity (these include Catholics, Anglicans, Latter-day Saints, Protestants, etc.) or are Jews. Religious adherents from other religions (Islam, Hindu, Baha'i, Tenrikyo, Wiccan) are listed here as well. We have been unable to identify any Sikh SF/F writers. Buddhist SF/F writers are very rare. Science fiction
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
A collection of well-known science-fiction novels and magazines Science fiction is a form of speculative fiction principally dealing with the impact of imagined science and technology upon society and persons as individuals . In common with most fiction, science fiction is written mainly to entertain people. The borders of this genre are not well defined, and the dividing lines between its sub-genres are often fluid. (In Strong Opinions, Vladimir Nabokov half-seriously argues that, if we were truly rigorous with our definitions, Shakespeare 's play The Tempest would have to be termed science fiction.) Two competing abbreviations for "science fiction" are in common usage: " SF " (or " S.F. ") is the term most commonly used by science fiction writers and serious fans. This is also the preferred usage in the U.K. . The euphonic " sci-fi ", coined by Forrest J Ackerman in , has grown tremendously in popularity and is today, by far, the more common term used in the popular press (although many a science fiction writer has been known to wince at its usage, in part because the referent "hi fi" is no longer in current use). For many years hardcore sf fans scorned "sci fi", but now, thanks largely to the Sci Fi Channel , the battle is lost, and sci fi is the abbreviation most likely to be understood.
