Owl Goingback became a full time writer in 1987, after serving as a jet engine mechanic in the Air Force and owning a restaurant/lounge. He has written novels, children's books, short stories, and magazine articles.
His novel, Crota , won the 1996 Bram Stoker Award for Best First Novel, and was one of four finalists in the Best Novel category. (The Bram Stoker Award, an annual award by the Horror Writers Association, is considered the highest honor a writer can receive in the horror genre.)
His novel, Shaman Moon , draws on his Native American heritage to tell a story of supernatural suspense, as do his other novels, Darker than Night Evil Whispers , and his latest, Breed
His short stories have appeared in a number of anthologies, including Tales from the Great Turtle, Confederacy of the Dead, Phantoms of the Night, Excalibur, The Book of Kings, When Will You Rage?, Once Upon a Midnight, Quest to Riverworld, Grails: Visitations of the Night, and South from Midnight. His story, Grass Dancer, was a Nebula Award Nominee for best short story in 1995.

Bibliographies and Indexes
There are no indexes specifically limited to feminist science fiction materials, although there are indexes to science fiction in general. Consequently, other more general resources must be used. On-line bibliographies such as the MLA and Expanded Academic Index provide the most recent information, although they do not include the full range of publications where science fiction primary and secondary literature appear. Finding critical essays and short fiction published in small magazines remains a problem, as the few indexes which include them are not updated very frequently. These works provide lists and bibliographic information of primary works of science fiction by women and/or science fiction with a feminist perspective; lists of female characters; and a few entries on secondary or critical works.
Two excellent electronic sources are Laura Quilter's Feminist Science Fiction WWW page and the short lists compiled for the Tiptree Award . For more information about these sites, see the

Science fiction
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
A collection of well-known science-fiction novels and magazines Science fiction is a form of speculative fiction principally dealing with the impact of imagined science and technology upon society and persons as individuals . In common with most fiction, science fiction is written mainly to entertain people. The borders of this genre are not well defined, and the dividing lines between its sub-genres are often fluid. (In Strong Opinions, Vladimir Nabokov half-seriously argues that, if we were truly rigorous with our definitions, Shakespeare 's play The Tempest would have to be termed science fiction.) Two competing abbreviations for "science fiction" are in common usage: " SF " (or " S.F. ") is the term most commonly used by science fiction writers and serious fans. This is also the preferred usage in the U.K. . The euphonic " sci-fi ", coined by Forrest J Ackerman in , has grown tremendously in popularity and is today, by far, the more common term used in the popular press (although many a science fiction writer has been known to wince at its usage, in part because the referent "hi fi" is no longer in current use). For many years hardcore sf fans scorned "sci fi", but now, thanks largely to the Sci Fi Channel , the battle is lost, and sci fi is the abbreviation most likely to be understood.

Science fiction and fantasy: A guide to resources on the Web
    October 2002
Vol. 63 No. 9 by Wendi Arant and Hal W. Hall Given the popular nature of science fiction and fantasy (SFF), there are millions of sites on the Internet dedicated to specific creators, genres, movements, history, scholarship, and fandom surrounding fiction, films, games, and television. The plethora of Web pages is problematic for the user, which makes having a guide useful.
Science fiction has evolved from its genre or pulp beginnings to an overlapping mixture of books, magazines, motion pictures, television, comics, conventions, and gaming. Each subset has its own communication infrastructure on the Web and in the world. This listing focuses primarily on the print subset of science fiction, with a nod to movies, television, and other media. In addition, science fiction and fantasy can arguably include such subgenre as horror, supernatural, and weird fiction, which we have tried to characterize through inclusion of some sites in these areas.
Selection of sites in this listing was based on usefulness (as in omnibus sites) and on authority (the accuracy of the material and the expertise of the source). An effort has been made to include sources that are available without a subscription and with unrestricted access.
