About Oklahoma City University
From the small class sizes to alumni success stories, many factors define Oklahoma City University's excellence. However, a quality, values-centered education is the centerpiece of The OCU Difference. OCU's professors share a commitment to the success of our students. Although many of our professors conduct research and publish in academic and trade journals, their number one priority is teaching students. Professors with the highest academic credentials in their fields teach most of our classes, and none is taught by graduate or teaching assistants. Our students have daily access to their professors and plenty of individual attention.
The OCU Difference is also apparent in our campus life. OCU is small enough for you to feel a sense of community but large enough to offer the full university experience. Our campus sits in the heart of a major metropolitan area, amid historic neighborhoods, near the State Capitol Building complex, and close to downtown attractions and the Bricktown entertainment district. Entertainment, museums, restaurants, and shops are all nearby. Opportunities on campus for cultural enrichment abound, including concerts, plays, and world-renowned speakers. The University continues to improve facilities and services to accommodate our students. This year, the Student Senate moved into new offive space in the C.Q. Smith Student Faculty Center. And, of course, the beautifully landscaped grounds make life at OCU a pleasure, providing an inviting space for quiet study or the odd football or soccer game on the lawn.

Dear David, I assume when you say worm, you mean earthworm? The reason I ask is because I worked with C. elegans , a microscopic, non-parastic roundworm. This is why I got your question. In the world of C. elegans This is one of the reasons that C. elegans is a good model system to test learning (always providing that you believe worms can learn). They are small enough that they can be tested en mass (>100) for each trial. In the learning paradigms designed for C. elegans , they are exposed to two types of chemicals, one that they like and one that they don't like (in this case it was a garlic extract). C. elegans is chemical sensitive and if you pair either chemical with a food source, you can "teach" the worms to move towards the food source. You can try that with the earthworms as well (eventually). Pair a noxious substance with a food source and see if the earthworms can associate the one with the otherlike Pavlov's dog. However, the more factors you add to your experiments, the more controls you would have to do. So, I suggest that you start simply with as few "problems" as possible. Try to control for as much as you can ie., pick worms that are healthy, the same age and from the same area in the garden. If soil is the reward you plan to use at the end of the maze, make sure the soil hasn't been contaminated with other 'flavours'. The test surface should be cleaned after each trial (I suggest a short maze)you don't want the trail of one worm to influence the choices of the next worm. And keep track of the worms. You don't want an already trained worm to slither through the maze as an untrained worm and throw off your results.

Requirements and Certification
Requirements
The Teaching and Curriculum Program (TAC) and MidCareer Math and Science Program (MCMS) are intensive eleven-month masters programs in which students must complete a summer program as well as a full academic year of classes and fieldwork. Summer Program: All candidates begin their course of study in the summer immediately following their acceptance in the program. The summer session usually begins in the third week of June and runs through early August. Candidates spend their mornings team-teaching in the Cambridge-Harvard Summer Academy (CHSA) with other Interns in their chosen subject field under the guidance of master teachers. In the afternoons, candidates attend classes and seminars at HGSE designed to support their CHSA experience. The classes and seminars focus on adolescent development in urban settings, issues of urban schooling, introductory teaching techniques, issues related to students with learning disabilities or who have limited English proficiency. Fall Term: During the fall term, candidates continue their fieldwork in the urban districts of Boston and Cambridge. Candidates also enroll in required courses that focus on the teaching of their particular subject-matter, on school reform, and on literacy and learning. Candidates also enroll in at least one elective (preferably related to their chosen subject-matter) that may be chosen from any of the ten graduate faculties of Harvard University and from the Episcopal Divinity School, Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The MCMS Program is an elevenmonth program that combines teaching practica following fields biology, earth science, general science, and mathematics.
http://www.gse.harvard.edu/~tep/discover/mcms.html
MidCareer Math and Science Program (MCMS)
Objectives The objectives of the MidCareer Math and Science Program are:
  • To kindle an intense commitment, interest, and pride in the work of practicing educators that has been sorely missed in the past decade; To provide an innovative model for other educational institutions across the country to address the condition of secondary math and science education; To prepare leaders and agents for organizational and social change in classrooms, schools, and society. These teachers will understand the role of organizational dynamics and power relationships in their work.
Background The MCMS Program is an eleven-month program that combines teaching practica and clinical internships in area urban schools with courses that address teaching techniques, literacy, the role of race and ethnicity in learning, adolescent development, school reform, issues in urban education, and other subject-related courses. The centerpiece of the Program is extensive fieldwork in secondary classrooms that seeks to bring real-world applications of math and science into secondary classrooms. MCMS candidates come from fields as varied as business, technology, scientific research, engineering, and medicine. Recent graduates have worked in electrical, computer, and civil engineering, biotechnology and microbiology. Investment bankers, members of the U.S. military, Foreign Service and U.S. Diplomatic Service, experts from the U.S. Weather Service and NASA, as well as veterinary technicians, geologists and genetic researchers have successfully completed the program as well.

76. Teacher Certification
NSTA certification seeks to improve the quality of science teaching by Elementary Science; Middle Level Science; Secondary Science General Requirements
http://www.pittstate.edu/services/scied/Certify/nsta.htm
NSTA Teacher Certification
An Overview
T he National Science Teachers Association offers certification to elementary and middle level teachers of science and to teachers of biology, broadfield science, chemistry, earth and space science, general science, physics, and physical science. To become certified, teachers must meet specific standards of education and experience based on the grade level and/or subject they teach. A teacher is eligible to apply for certification after completing three years of full-time teaching. NSTA certification seeks to improve the quality of science teaching by recognizing teachers who are well qualified. NSTA certification gives teachers an edge in seeking or keeping a teaching assignment for which they are qualified and, where possible, in ascending the salary ladder. The NSTA standards have been adopted by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education and by the Association for the Education of Teachers in Science. NSTA offers certification in the following categories:
