More than 200 scholarships have provided over $300,000 annually to business and economics students for each of the past several years. College scholarships typically range from $100 up to $5,000 per recipient per year, and some students receive more than one. They are awarded according to specific qualifications outlined by the donors when the scholarships were created. Those could include the student's hometown, major, grade point average, and/or need, for example. Another qualification might be the student's class standing-i.e., freshman, sophomore, master's, etc. Students apply through the University's application process. Only those who are certified, or who have indicated a strong interest in business are eligible for our scholarships. Applications are available online each September through the Office of Scholarship Services ( www.finaid.wsu.edu

THINKING ABOUT
ART HISTORY
Because fewer high schools offer AP art history courses than AP studio courses, not many prospective students enter Davidson intending to be art history majors. However, many first- and second-year students who prefer learning about art to making it fulfill their fine arts requirement by choosing one of the six to eight art history offerings available each semester. Students in all disciplines benefit from experiencing the visual images that connect them to the history and culture of their world, and each year about a dozen students declare an art major with an emphsis in art history.

STUDIO ART
Many prospective students who want to become future artists ask about the advantages of attending a liberal arts college rather than an art school for their undergraduate degree. From Davidson's viewpoint, the advantages are a more stimulating environment and a multi-disciplinary approach, both of which provide a wider world view and a deeper understanding of art within its historical context, as well as broader career perspectives and opportunities.

In addition to its deep commitment to need-based financial aid, the University maintains its own strong scholarship program. Brandeis scholarships may be offered to entering freshmen and are used to enroll the very best class possible with the scholarship funds we have available. Thus, our scholarships, which focus primarily on merit, are also need-sensitive. Approximately 200 students in the current first-year class of 800 received scholarship awards ranging from $5,000 per year for four years up to full tuition per year for four years. This year Brandeis awarded undergraduate students more than $8.5 million in scholarship/grant assistance. To be considered for any of these scholarships a student must submit the CSS/PROFILE, available on the Web at www.CollegeBoard.com. Students from families with strong financial resources should not hesitate to file the CSS/PROFILE since there are numbers of students at Brandeis who hold scholarships whose family incomes are well into six figures. Brandeis is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Division III, and as such does not offer any scholarships based on athletic talent. Student athletes who need financial assistance are encouraged to apply for need-based financial aid.

Tips for Applying and Interviewing for Scholarships Applying for a Scholarship: Always use proper capitalization, grammar, and spelling when writing to scholarship providers – even if you are corresponding by email. It is possible that your emails may be included in your application file. Read the entire application packet – both the forms and the information sheets. If you have any questions after reading the entire packet, contact the scholarship provider. Make sure you meet the scholarship’s minimum requirements. Follow all directions carefully, and make sure you submit a complete application. Respond to all questions, and submit all required supplemental forms and materials. Do not include additional material that is not required. Your application is a "first impression" to the application reviewers. Make sure your application is neat and thorough. Always type your application. If you must hand-write your application, do so neatly and legibly. Make photocopies of the blank application forms in case you make an error and need to start over. Put your name (and Social Security number, if applicable) on all pages of the application. Pieces of your application may get separated and lost unless they are clearly identified.

Each category has specific requirements that must be met for an application to be considered. The 4-H college scholarships are in addition to the scholarships awarded to advanced record book winners to attend National 4-H Congress. Arkansas 4-H members are eligible to receive only one 4-H college scholarship from each category of state 4-H scholarships:
All attachments must be included with the scholarship applications and received in the state 4-H office by February 1 for the application to be considered. All applications must be signed by a member of the county Extension faculty in the member's home county to be considered. A state scholarship must be used within one year of the date of the award (with the exception of the Arkansas Livestock Show/Oaklawn Jockey Club Scholarships, in which case the scholarship must be used within 18 months). In the event the scholarship is not used within the year of limitation, the winner must submit a request for a time extension through the county Extension office where they resided at the time they became eligible for the award to the state 4-H office. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of the scholarship.

Though not as well-known as the Rhodes or Fulbright Scholarships, the Rotary Foundation is the largest private source of scholarships in the world. The Rotary Foundation seeks to promote international understanding through student exchanges: all scholarships are "ambassadorial," which means Rotary seeks candidates who would represent both the organization and their country well. The Foundation emphasizes enthusiasm, eloquence, and other qualities which would make you a good representative of your country over strict academic qualifications. Even if you do not have an outstanding academic record, you still have a chance at receiving this scholarship.
Types of Awards
Multi-year Ambassadorial Scholarships provide a flat grant of US$13,000 or its equivalent per year for a period of two or three years. Requirements: ability to read, write, and speak language of host country.

  • Start early! Best success can be had with the maximum lead time. Be persistent. Good grades or achievements (and this includes volunteering) are rewarded. Type your application and essay when possible, unless it requires handwriting. If a selection committee member has to read 10 or even 30 applications, they don't want to be trying to decipher chicken scratches. Likewise, make sure you use your grammar and spell check on your computer. (Don't have a computer? Check out your local library or public university for public access computers.) If the application calls for a report cover, use one. If it does not, don't use one. It will only get thrown away from the receptionist opening the mail and photocopying the application for the selection committee. Double check all your materials before you send it off to the donor/sponsor. Make sure you enclose applications, transcripts, resume or whatever they have requested. Read the instruction very carefully before you start and when you are done. Many students in their rush to finish and go on to something else, forget to include key items. This is natural selection. Your application will be thrown out.
