China is one of the oldest civilizations on earth, being several thousand years old. The earliest forms of government were the successive dynasties that controlled China up until 1912, when the Wuchang uprising created the republic of China. Yun Shikai was made president of the republic, and served until 1916, when he died of a nervous breakdown. After his death, the republic of China shattered, and the reign of the warlords began. After years of infighting, the Chinese mainland was taken over by the Communist party of China, and was declared the Peoples Republic of China (PRC) in 1949, while the Republic of China fled to Taiwan. Almost as soon as it was founded, the PRC began to base its society and government on those of the Soviet Union. It created a planned economy, and extended government authority into every facet of daily life. FAHAD AL RAJHI
There is a difference between arranging a marriage in Saudi Arabia in the United States. In Saudi Arabia the man has to go to the bride's house and this is very formal in Saudi Arabia because we have rules to follow in our religion. According to the tradition in Saudi Arabia, if a man wants to get married, first, he has to go to the bride's father's house. And it'll be the first time for him to see the girl that he is going to marry. A man has to tell his mother, his sister or one of his relatives what kind of woman he would like to marry. For example, he would say that he wants a lady with big eyes, long dark hair, not fat, not thin, but normal body, and someone who follows the rules of the religion. The mother or the sister won't find the woman that he likes quickly; it would take about a month or more. If the mother or the sister found the woman that he described, they would tell him and then they would call the woman's parents and tell them that they want to engage their son to their daughter. So, if the woman's parents don't refuse, they'll set an appointment for the man to come to their house with his parents. At the woman's house, her father would sit with the man and his father and talk. For example, they would talk about the man's job, about his income and about the dowry for the woman.....etc. After a while, the woman would serve the gentlemen tea or soda, and then she would stay for fifteen minutes or less, then leave.

    Saudi Arabia History and Culture
History Arabia was probably the original home of the Semites. Beginning in the 4th millennium BC, these ancient peoples moved into Mesopotamia and Palestine, where they came to be identified as Assyro-Babylonians, Canaanites, and Amorites. Culture Saudi culture is based on Islam and the perfection of the Arabic language. The Saudi form of Islam is conservative and fundamentalist, based on the 18th-century revivalist movement of the Najdi leader Shaikh Mohammed Ibn Abdel-Wahhab. This still has a great effect on Saudi society, especially on the position of women, who do not generally go out without being totally covered in black robes (abaya) and masks, although there are regional variations of dress. The Najd and other remote areas remain true to Wahhabi tradition, but throughout the country this way of life is being threatened by modernisation and rapid development.

Many Japanese may have the preoccupation that Islam is the "culture of a distant desert." But through exhibitions with the theme of "wisdom, harmony and hope," Saudi Arabia hopes visitors will feel the wisdom of Islamic culture about the natural environment and deepen understanding about Islam. The first display incorporates an "imaginary urban environment" composed of buildings from various areas in Saudi Arabia, lifestyle culture and wisdom evident in the lifestyle of the people in desert. The next display introduces the history of creation of Saudi Arabia and industrial development based on petrochemicals. The last display showcases the efforts and achievements of various Saudi Arabians working around the world in diverse fields.
The large and visually arresting image of Mecca and Medina displayed inside the pavilion serves as a symbolic reminder that the past, present and future of Saudi Arabia have been, are and will be molded by teachings and guidance of Islam. A large circular visual display provides the backdrop for a dramatic presentation of the magnificent natural heritage of the Arabian Peninsula stretching back to the prehistoric era.

Net use is catching on in Saudi Arabia
    By Alfred Hermida
BBC News Online technology staff If you tried to look at Rolling Stone magazine on the web from Saudi Arabia, you would find that access has been denied. You would not have much luck either if you tried the American women's lifestyle site iVillage.com. These sites are among the 2,000 blocked by the Saudi Government, a Harvard Law School has found. Most of the blacklisted sites were sexually explicit or about religion. But also caught in the net were sites about women, health, drugs and pop culture. "We found blockage of quite a bit of content beyond political content and pornography," said Ben Edelman, one of the researchers behind the report. "We found the blocking of content about women's history or sites about bathing suits. So if you want to buy something to swim in, they seem to treat that as if it were pornographic in Saudi Arabia," Mr Edelman told the BBC programme Go Digital.
