Welcome to the Home Page of the Regina Archaeological Society(RAS) . We are a Regina area based group dedicated to providing our members with the opportunity to learn about and participate in archaeological discoveries underway in Saskatchewan and around the world. We also take an active role in explaining archaeological principles to the general public. By this means we hope to provide the general public with an awareness of the importance of archaeology and to assist in the preservation of archaeological sites. Please check here for an outline of our history and objectives . We would be pleased to have you as a member of our organization. No previous experience in archaeology is required. All that we require is your agreement with our objectives and a small membership fee. If you would like to join us please print the application form , complete it and mail to us. You will be welcome to participate in the activities we are planning. Each year we have a full range of activities planned. Some of these projects are listed below. We will have a complete program for 2005-2006. Several projects are now being planned..
  • Regretfully our main event, the Regina Archaeological Society Field School at Chimney Coulee had to be cancelled. Our leader encountered unanticipated problems. And the school can not be conducted without him.

Research: My interests focus on the place of women in Ancient Rome. I am currently researching the ideals of womanhood in Ancient Rome through evidence found on funerary monuments and epitaphs. My M.A. research on women in the early Church continues to be an area of interest to me. In the future, I hope to have the time to research other areas such as Roman medical theories, the outbreak of the Second Punic War with reference to treaty violations, material remains such as coins and monuments as a mode of propaganda in the imperial period, and the numismatic evidence for Ptolemaic Queens. A History Tour of the North Saskatchewan
Dividing the parklands and the plains, providing a navigable corridor for most of its 1,300 kilometre route, and flowing all the way from the Rocky Mountains across Alberta and Saskatchewan, the North Saskatchewan River is one of Canada's most historic waterways. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the Saskatchewan River Route was one of the country's most important fur trading arteries, and in the 20th century, it anchored the urban and economic development of much of Canada's western prairies.

New exhibits entitled Winning The Prairie Gamble will open at the four WDM exhibit branches in Moose Jaw, North Battleford, Saskatoon and Yorkton over the next two years, which celebrate provincial milestones, benchmarks, personal stories, achievements and the indomitable spirit of Saskatchewan's people. "Prairie populism has produced a unique brand of museums, by the people for the people," wrote reporter Monique Roy-Sole in a 1991 issue of Canadian Geographic . Continuing the Museum's reputation as a people's museum, the WDM invites you to participate in and support the Museum's centennial projects.

Elwin Hermanson was born and raised on the family farm near Beechy, Saskatchewan. He took over the farm in 1975 and married his wife Gail in 1976. The Hermansons have three children: Ehren, Byron, and Marlyn. From 1979 through 1989, Elwin served on the Board of Directors of the Full Gospel Bible Institute. He has also served on the Beechy-Demaine Economic Development Committee. In 1988, Elwin’s interest in politics led him to run for a seat in the federal parliament as one of the first Reform Party candidates in Canada. He served three terms on the Reform Party's National Executive Council and was elected as the Member of Parliament for the Riding of Kindersley-Lloydminster in 1993. During his time in Ottawa, he served as House Leader and then Chief Agriculture Critic for the Reform Party. When the Saskatchewan Party was formed in August of 1997, Elwin agreed to serve as one of the initial members of the Saskatchewan Party Steering Committee. On April 20th, 1998, Elwin Hermanson became the first elected Leader of the Saskatchewan Party in what was at the time the largest "one member-one vote" party leadership election in Saskatchewan's history. He worked hard over the following eighteen months to build the Saskatchewan Party and recruit top quality candidates to contest the 1999 provincial election. Under his leadership, the Saskatchewan Party's membership more than tripled to over 16,000 people. From 1999 to 2004, Elwin led a strong Official Opposition in the provincial Legislature, developed a comprehensive policy platform designed to grow Saskatchewan by 100,000 people in ten years and built a strong team of talented candidates in well-organized constituency organizations across Saskatchewan.

Saskatchewan UCC presents 1999 Nation Builders Awards SASKATOON - The fifth annual recognition event of the Saskatchewan Provincial Council of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC-SPC) was held November 7, when 265 guests, family and friends from across Canada gathered for lunch at the Delta Bessborough Hotel. The occasion honored 11 recipients of the prestigious Nation Builders Awards presented annually since 1994 to recognize community contributions of outstanding Ukrainian Canadians from Saskatchewan. The 1999 awards focused on distinction through career achievements. Those present ranged from a large number of young grandchildren of recipients to several nonagenarians. Seven former recipients also were present, including Dr. Stephen Worobetz, who had been invested into the Saskatchewan Order of Merit on October 28 in Saskatoon. The award recipients included two church metropolitans, a senator, a premier, a government minister, a war hero, a ceramics artist, three professors and a pharmacist. Four of these were also authors, two were researchers, one was a mayor and one a former lieutenant-governor. Through their distinguished careers they brought distinction to the community of their heritage. The program was conducted by master of ceremonies, Danylo Puderak, languages and marketing coordinator at the Center for Second Language Instruction at the University of Saskatchewan. Eugene Krenosky, president, UCC-SPC, presented the awards.
