NEWS! SHFS Annual General Meeting Saturday, September 24, 9:00 a.m. to noon Regina Inn 1975 Broad Street, Regina The meeting will be followed by a luncheon with Guest Speaker Dr. Stephen L.V. King In recognition of the 60th Anniversary of the end of World War II, Dr. Stephen L.V. The book follows the correspondence between RCAF Sergeant George McCowan King and his parents, up to September 25, 1943 when they received a terse telegram advising them that their loving son was missing in action. Born some 30 years after the tragic death of his uncle, Dr. King gives wonderful insight into a part of our collective history which must not be forgotten. There is no cost to attend the SHFS Annual General Meeting and Luncheon, however we would appreciate it if you pre-registered by telephoning the office at 780-9204 (Regina) or toll-free 1-800-919-9437. University of Saskatchewan Mission Statement
Our Mission
The University of Saskatchewan belongs to the people of Saskatchewan. As an academic community, our mission is to achieve excellence in the scholarly activities of teaching, discovering, preserving, and applying knowledge.
Our Heritage
The University of Saskatchewan was founded in 1907, just two years after the creation of the province, to provide traditional and innovative post-secondary education to the youth of Saskatchewan. Walter Murray, our first president, supported by the people of Saskatchewan, faculty, students, staff, and politicians of both existing parties, developed a university which was guaranteed the independence necessary to function effectively. The University provided a unique blend of liberal, professional, and applied education to prepare its students to help the people of Saskatchewan build an agriculturally-based province with the economic and cultural benefits of modern urban society. One of the ways in which the University of Saskatchewan fulfilled its unique mission was by establishing colleges of arts and science and agriculture on the same campus so each would influence the other. Gradually, various schools and colleges were established to provide Saskatchewan with educated professionals. Graduate programs were added as the needs of Saskatchewan society became more complex. Over time, the University developed affiliations with several colleges and research institutes on or near its campus.

Canadian society is built on an open, democratic system of government and a justice system designed to protect the individual and prevent the violence and persecution that is too often seen in other countries. The police and courts are subject to regulations and public scrutiny that guarantee fairness and protection for all residents. Regardless of race, creed or country of origin, Canada's constitution ensures that individual human rights and freedoms are protected.
