    Falling Into Good Grammar
I love fall! It is my favorite time of year, and I love to decorate my room with a harvest theme. This bulletin board, "Falling into Good Grammar" was great. I used a scarecrow theme on the boards trim, and with it I used a 5 ft. scarecrow that I had purchased at Walmart for about $6. It is originally attached to a pole for lawn use, but I cut the pole off and just stapled the garment to my bulletin board. I used some other 3-D effects (the pussy willow branches and... source

Teachers: As you are teaching how hurricanes form, include this information about hurricane safety. While it is important to teach the science of hurricanes, it is also important for students to learn safety methods in order to avoid harm during a hurricane. Objective: Students will apply their knowledge of hurricanes to safety procedures in order to learn how to avoid harm in such weather conditions. Materials: Background: Hurricane facts
    • The National Weather Service can detect hurricanes days to weeks before they ever come ashore. Satellites, planes and buoys collect data needed to determine the strength and the direction of these tropical cyclones. A hurricane watch is issued when forecasters decide that the storm may reach land within 48 hours. A hurricane warning is issued when forecasters decide that the storm may reach land within 24 hours. To be categorized as a hurricane, the wind speed needs to be above 74 mph. The water along the shore can rise as high as 25 feet above normal high tide levels. This rising of the water is called the storm surge. Water carries with it a force of 1,700 pounds per cubic yard.

Egg tempera was the paint used by virtually all artists during the Middle Ages. In fact, the use of tempera paint can be traced back to ancient Egypt. In the early Renaissance, artists used egg yolk as a binding agent, mixing in colored pigments to create egg tempera paint. Egg tempera had its limitations. It could not be stored, so each color was mixed when it was needed. Mixing too little paint was a disaster because mixing additional paint to match the first batch perfectly was very difficult. Mixing too much paint was a waste of expensive materials. Because egg tempera dries very quickly, artists had to paint small areas at one time. The fast drying time made blending one color into another difficult, so artists layered one color over another dry color to create modeling; a way to give three-dimensionality to forms by shading or blending. The limitations of tempera paint did not stop its use in Medieval Europe. Most artists were painting pictures of religious figures and these paintings were not meant to tell viewers what the saints looked like. The images were meant to
