General Information F ounded in 1977, the Russian Language Institute (RLI) at Bryn Mawr seeks to support the study and teaching of Russian in the United States by providing an intensive-immersion setting for both teachers and learners of the language. RLI offers four- and eight-week programs for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students, concentrating on language training. Specialized seminars are also periodically offered for high school and college Russian teachers of Russian under the auspices of RLi.
T he eight-week Russian Language Institute offers a highly-focused curriculum and a study environment conducive to the rapid development of the four language skills (oral, aural, writing, reading) as well as cultural awareness. The program draws participants from a broad spectrum of academic fields, occupations, ages, and interests. Course offerings are designed to accommodate a full range of language learners, from the beginner to the advanced graduate-level scholar (five levels total). The highly intensive nature of the course work and the culturally-rich immersion environment have proven very successful in providing the equivalent of a full academic year of college Russian to participants who complete the program.

INTENSIVE POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN RUSSIAN LANGUAGE
The one-year Diploma in Russian Language, which had been taught at Strathclyde University since the 1960s moved to Glasgow University in September 2004 as part of the Synergy programme of cooperation between the two institutions. This course is the only course of its kind in the UK. It provides an intensive programme in Russian language for graduates in other subjects who would find a thorough knowledge of Russian an asset in their chosen field. In the past the course has been of particular interest to graduates in area studies, history, social and natural sciences, management science, marketing and other related subjects. Those who have completed the course have gone into teaching, commerce, financial services, government, translating, postgraduate study and other occupations. The course is specifically designed for those who have no knowledge of the language, but this does not preclude those who already know some Russian. In one academic year of intensive study it brings students to Pass Degree level in Russian language.

Welcome to the on-line version of "Vestnik" , a Russian-American Russian language biweekly magazine. Tens of thousands people in the U.S.A., Canada, Europe, Russia, Ukraine, Australia, and Israel read and subscribe to "Vestnik" . In the seven years of its existence, "Vestnik" has published a new issue every two weeks - more than 180 issues to date. At 76 pages long, "Vestnik" is one of the most popular Russian language periodicals in the United States today. As of April, 1997, "Vestnik" is also published on-line. Internet version does not replace the printed magazine. To provide faster access to the material you are interested in, we omitted many illustrations and photos. Only about half of the approximately 20 feature articles printed in every issue of the magazine will be put on-line. As our site becomes more popular, we will increase the number of on-line articles. Besides the current issue of the magazine (which appears here several days prior to the printed version), you can also visit past issues. Unfortunately we cannot provide English translation for the magazine content, but we hope that non-Russian speaking visitors will still find some of the information useful.
