Australia's Olympic gold medallist Cathy Freeman spent $3480 on vitamins and supplements from health food shops in the four months leading up to the Sydney Olympic Games. Freeman's $200 a week habit, which was detailed in Victorian Supreme Court documents in her legal battle with former boyfriend and manager Nick Bideau, was not unusual among her Olympic peers. A groundbreaking survey of medications taken by athletes at the Sydney Olympics was conducted by former chairman of the Australian Sports Drug Agency and Olympic sports doctor Brian Corrigan and the director of the Australian Sports Drug Testing Laboratory, Ray Kazlauskas.
