84. Art History Romania- History Of Art Romania - Art History Romania In Ottoman Emp
Information regarding Art history in ancient Ottoman Empire.
http://www.easterncorner.com/Romania.htm
History of Romania in Ottoman Times Between the 14th and 18th centuries the Romanian principalities of Moldavia and Walachia evolved as part of the Eastern Orthodox religious and cultural world: their ecclesiastical allegiance was to the Patriarchate of Constantinople; their princes emulated the Byzantine emperors and drew their written law from Byzantine codes; their economy was agrarian and their society rural; and their art and literature followed Eastern religious and didactic patterns in Romanian History. Yet the Romanians also possessed qualities that set them apart from their neighbours and drew them westward: they spoke a language derived from Latin, and they recognized the Romans as their ancestors.
Nearly four centuries of Ottoman Turkish domination between the 15th and 19th centuries reinforced the Romanians' attachment to the East in Romanian History. Hardly had the principalities achieved independence than they were forced to confront the relentless advance of Ottoman armies into southeastern Europe. By recognizing the suzerainty of the sultan and by paying him annual tribute, the Romanians avoided direct incorporation into the Ottoman Empire. In Romanian History , The Romanians thus preserved their political institutions, laws, and social structure, and they avoided a massive settlement of Muslims onto the land.
The autonomy of the principalities was not seriously compromised until the beginning of the 18th century in Romanian History. The princes carried on their own foreign policy (although such action violated their formal vassal status), and they even joined anti-Turkish coalitions in order to throw off Ottoman domination throughout 18th century in Romanian History. The reign of Michael the Brave of Walachia (1593-1601) marked the high point of Romanian autonomy in Romanian History. In order to help drive the Ottomans out of Europe, Michael adhered to the Holy League of European powers and the papacy; he thus regained full independence and even united Moldavia and Transylvania under his rule. But the breakup of the coalition ended his brief success, for the Romanians were too outnumbered to stand alone against the Ottomans throughout the Romanian History.

Fostering History and Citizenship Education in Romania. A EUROCLIO/Matra/Center Education 2000+ Project (2003-2006)
This project is financed by the Matra Programme of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Romanian Center Education 2000+. In June 2003 this three-year project officially started to bring together history teachers, textbook authors, initial and in-service teacher trainers, curriculum developers and pupils to work on the development of innovative teaching materials. We aim to develop and implement educational material for citizenship education and to continue the process of democratisation through history education.
The first training seminar in the autumn focused on fundamental questions like ‘what is the aim of teaching history?’ and ‘what history do we want to teach?’. 50 Romanian history educators from various regions attended the seminar in which international consultants and observers from neighbouring countries played important roles.
In December the first General Assembly of the Romanian History Teachers’ Association APIR-CLIO took place in Bucharest. The Center Education 2000+ managed to invite more than 120 history educators from all over the country who discussed aims, priorities and statutes and elected a Board for the Association. Consultants from Latvia and the Netherlands gave active workshops on how to organise a national History Teachers’ Association and about the interrelations between APIR-Clio and EUROCLIO, as well as their shared challenges and opportunities. APIR-Clio will apply for EUROCLIO membership and will be a partner in the project.

Romania Walachia and Moldavia united in 1859 to form the basis of Romania. In 1877, the two principalities gained their independence from the Ottoman Empire. Transylvania joined them in 1918 and formed the modern Romania, which at that time included Bessarabia and Bucovina. A flourishing period characterised the decades between the two World Wars. On 30 December 1948 the People's Republic of Romania, which later became the Socialist Republic of Romania, was proclaimed. Following the revolution of December 1989, Romania returned to democracy. After six years of left-wing government, a coalition of centre-right parties came to power in November 1996.

Contact Us CHF International Romania has almost ten years of experience working in Romania on a variety of USAID-funded community economic development projects. This involvement began with the Model Project for NGO Development , a multifaceted approach integrating technical assistance to local NGOs, access to credit for small businesses and homeowners, and partnerships with municipal governments. The first program started in 1994 and was based in Timisoara. CHF was the lead organization for the Overseas Cooperative Development Council, a group of U.S. cooperative development organizations, which worked closely with business associations, housing federations, agricultural associations, cultural institutions and social-service organizations. By 1999, this innovative program model created by CHF International Romania was expanded into five western counties through its Integrated NGO and Economic Development Program , which emphasized local economic development issues through business credit and institutional strengthening of member-based business associations, chambers of commerce and housing federations. The program facilitated the transition of partner NGOs to economically sustainable organizations through the provision of demand-driven services to their members. CHF International Romania established 25 partnerships with local NGOs. With capital grants and loans from USAID and the Romanian American Enterprise Fund (RAEF), CHF International Romania provided business loans to economically depressed counties bordering Serbia.
