ADVERTISING INFORMATION Brasov - Culture VLAD DRACULA The historical Dracula, was a Walachian prince who ruled Romania from 1456 to 1642. During the fifteenth century Turks conquered most of what is now the Balkans. Vlad Dracula repelled the invading armies by impaling his Turkish enemies on spikes earning the sobriquet Vlad The Impaler .Because of their fear to Vlad the Turks did not press for sovereign control of the region. Dracula was also the man who founded Bucharest the capital of Romania. Brasov has always been a major cultural cent re . Johannes Honterus (1498-1549), who led the Protestant Reformation in the area, established the first printing press in Transylvania here. The first book in Romanian language was also printed in Brasov, by the deacon Coresi, in the 16th century. Nowadays, you can spend some quality time walking down the streets that surround the old Town hall, all the way to the city walls. One of the nicest destinations is one of the original city gates, Poarta Schei, enchanting with its four towers. When you're done exploring, stop for a treat in one of the many nice cafes in the city square. For an elegant surrounding, try the "Orient Cafe". Or, if you prefer a more distinguished cultural experience, the Art Museum shelters some valuable Romanian paintings, while the History Museum awaits you in a medieval setting inside the old fortress. The biggest attraction in town is the Gothic Protestant Church built between 1385 and 1477. It is known by the name of "Black Church" because of its smoke-blackened walls after a fire in 1689.

    Updated 44 days 9 hours 42 minutes ago. Other descriptions of Culture of Romania Romania 's culture is very similar to other European culture, including that of Western Europe and Central Europe . However, the culture also has some influence from other, Oriental parts, including Turkey, or Slavic countries such as Russia. This article is about the continent. ... Western Europe is distinguished from Eastern Europe by differences of history and culture rather than by geography. ... Historical lands and provinces in Central Europe Central Europe is the region lying between the variously and vaguely defined areas of Eastern and Western Europe. ... Romania's rich cultural traditions have been nourished by many sources, some of which predate the Roman occupation. The traditional folk arts, including dance, wood carving, ceramics, weaving and embroidery of costumes and household decorations, and fascinating folk music, still flourish in many parts of the country. Despite strong

    Preserving the ties with the Byzantine stock, the culture of the Modern Age manifests an increasing tendency to follow the European artistic movements which send in turn echoes of the Renaissance, Romanticist, Academist, or Impressionistic trends. After the 1859 union of Wallachia and Moldavia, the foundations were laid in Iasi and Bucharest for artistic higher education, which would decisively contribute to the development of arts in Romania. Nicolae Grigorescu and Ion Andreescu worked for a time at Barbizon, alongside the artists who pioneered the Impressionist movement. These two painters and Stefan Luchian - who contributes elements akin to Art Nouveau and expressionism - are the founders of modern Romanian painting. They will be hollowed, in the first half of the 20th century, by great personalities who opened as many new vistas in Romanian painting. Having made their debut before World War II, several artists also continue their activity in the following decades, succeeding - despite all adversities in the postwar totalitarian period - to enhance the substance of the national artistic heritage: Ion Tuculescu, Henri Catargi, Alexandru Ciucurencu, Margareta Sterian, Corneliu Baba. If Brancusi revitalized the abstract expression of archaic art, Dimitrie Paciurea heads for those figurative and fantastic mythological representations that have functions in the old symbolical repertories but which still prove to be pertinent.

His advice is on the edge of adventure and entails ideas and tips that no one else has bothered to consider. His courage has brought him a large following of investors and expats that follow Doug around the world, in print and in profit. Doug Casey is also the founder of the Eris Society - Eris is the Greek goddess of discord, whose golden apple was marked, "to the fairest" (Kalliste). The squabble over this apple created the jealousy that led to the Trojan War. We have adopted that name to describe a group of free thinkers who meet once a year to discuss the arts and sciences, philosophy and theology and any other subject which may lead us to the world of ideas beyond our workaday lives. Even though I generally travel to about 20 different countries every year, I rarely go to Europe. I see the continent as concrete-bound, tradition-ridden, class-oriented, socialistic, constipated and generally lame. That's not to say it isn't full of fine cafes, architecture and museums—but the place itself has the ambience of a decrepit museum. It's like a Disneyland without the order, friendliness, or cleanliness—and I'm no fan of Disneyland. With it's ingrained welfare state, high taxes and immense bureaucracy, Europe is on the slippery slope. In a couple of generations people in the Orient will view it as a place to recruit houseboys and chambermaids—a quaint petting zoo populated by backward peasants occupied mainly with whether they'd rather elect a Red or a Green politician to reallocate their diminishing wealth.

    http://www.roembus.org/weblinks/Romania/Culture and Education.htm
    Culture and Education In order to have a correct idea about the Romanian culture, we have to mention, from the very beginning, that it includes the following elements:
    • the Geto-Dacian tradition, kept, to a certain extent, in the popular culture ( costumes, dances, ceramics etc.) associated with other traditions borrowed from the migrating people with whom the Daco-Roman population came into contact after the withdrawal of the roman armies from the Northern region of the Danube (271 AC).
    • the Latin element - which is very strong and prevailing in all the spheres of the manifestation of the folklore culture and that of the "cults" , starting with the language and ending with the phenomena which are specific to art;
    • the early presence of Christianity on the current territory of Romania , so that, taking into account the fact that this process coincided with the formation of the Romanian people itself, we can assert that the Romanians were not christianized, but were born Christians.
    • The Romanian culture created a pattern by comprising all of these sources of spirituality, a model it enriched during the subsequent ages of evolution. The consciousness of its Latinity represents the characteristic feature of the Romanian cultural pattern.
    This cultural pattern with its specificity can be noticed in all cultural manifestations like literature, architecture, music, theatre, filmmaking. A special attention must be paid to Romanian folklore, one of the richest in Europe, part of the Romanian culture, which constitutes together with other cultural manifestations the voices of authentic Romania. These voices of many creators of genius of Romania succeeded, in the course of time to make a "beautiful country" become an "unique country" too.
