This is the Internet Public Library (IPL) run by the School of Learning at the University of Michigan. It offers an amazing array of information, including reference librarians who'll help with your questions. There are some 9000 online texts (including essays by T.S. Eliot) that can be browsed by author, title, or Dewey Subject Classification. The "Literary Criticism Collection" contains over 2500 critical and biographical websites about authors and their works (both American and international) that can be browsed by author, by title, or by literary period. I browsed in the worldwide newspapers I found several broken links at one site in the Nepal section, but also some fascinating information at another. Under Taiwan, one paper hadn't been published in several years but the site contained an oddly eloquent plea for a return to oldtime newspaper formats, even when online. Several other countries also have newspapers still online whose last issue is months, even years old, but I have to say that there's something refreshing about knowing there are still places on earth where updates aren't expected at the speed of light (besides, reading old regional newspapers sometimes throws into high relief the roots of a problem only currently manifesting in the world at large). In addition to newspapers, there are magazine articles if they don't have something, they'll tell you who might.

68. Reasons For The Fall Of The Roman Empire
Alcohol use increased as well adding to the incompetency of the general public . Frustrated Romans lost their desire to defend the empire.
http://killeenroos.com/1/Romefall.htm
Christianity Decline in morals Public heath issues Political Corruption ... Increased Military spending Reasons for the fall of the Roman Empire All left Rome open to outside invaders adapted from History Alive material There were many reasons for the fall of the Roman Empire. Each one intertwined with the next. Many even blame the introduction of Christianity for the decline. Christianity made many Roman citizens into pacifists, making it more difficult to defend against the barbarian attackers. Also money used to build churches could have been used to maintain the empire. Although some argue that Christianity may have provided some morals and values for a declining civilization and therefore may have actually prolonged the imperial era. Decline in Morals and Values Those morals and values that kept together the Roman legions and thus the empire could not be maintained towards the end of the empire. Crimes of violence made the streets of the larger cities unsafe. Even during PaxRomana there were 32,000 prostitutes in Rome. Emperors like Nero and Caligula became infamous for wasting money on lavish parties where guests ate and drank until they became ill. The most popular amusement was watching the gladiatorial combats in the Colosseum. These were attended by the poor, the rich, and frequently the emperor himself. As gladiators fought, vicious cries and curses were heard from the audience. One contest after another was staged in the course of a single day. Should the ground become too soaked with blood, it was covered over with a fresh layer of sand and the performance went on.

Anno Urbis
This site is dedicated to bringing you information about the wonder that was the Roman Empire and how its legacy still shapes our history, our language, and the foundations of our society and its institutions. The Roman Empire endures!
The City of Rome was traditionally founded in 753 B.C. by our calendar. The Romans measured their calendar from the foundation of the City, or "Anno urbis conditae". By their calendar, today is Anno Urbis ("The Year of the City") 2758.
Below you will find a number of texts and resources that will be of use to anyone interested in the Roman Empire. Currently the documents are presented in small readable segments which allow you to browse these text books online. We have also added a site wide search engine to make finding information about the Roman Empire easier. And we have introduced a forum where anyone interested in roman history or society can post ideas or ask questions. We also think that it would be interesting to have a "What if" or "Alternate History" section to discuss what might have happened if for example, Julius Caesar had heeded the warnings and escaped assassination, or if the Emperor Valens had won the battle of Adrianoples instead of the Roman Army being destroyed by the barbarian invaders. Our world would definitely be different today. This is where you can let your imagination reshape our history.
