Proud to be the only Climbing School in Maine accredited by the AMGA!
Our school is based on Mount Desert Island, home to Acadia National Park where dramatic sea cliffs and vertical granite walls offer some of the best rock climbing and scenery in New England. We also guide regularly in nearby Clifton and Camden. For those interested in alpine climbing, nothing else in the east rivals the approach, setting and quality of routes like the Armadillo and the Flatiron on Katahdin. We also offer guided climbs to a variety of destinations in Asia and North and South America, including China, Red Rocks, Joshua Tree, Bolivia and Ecuador.
Our mission is to provide state-of-the-art instruction and guiding that maximizes your experience and minimizes physical and emotional risk and environmental impact. We seek to continually develop and share cutting edge ideas and techniques that improve the delivery of our instruction to our clients and that promote responsible guiding, recreational climbing and wilderness use. Acadia Mountain Guides Climbing School has been AMGA accredited since 1993 and is directed by Jon Tierney, an AMGA certified rock guide and alpine guide.

Yosemite is not just a climber's playground, however- Its walls and crags are an integral part of a larger ecosystem, protected as wilderness, that was set aside for people to enjoy in a natural state for generations to come. As the number of climbers visiting the park has increased through the years, the impacts of climbing have become much more obvious. Some of those impacts include: soil compaction, erosion, and vegetation loss in parking areas, at the base of climbs, and on approach and descent trails, destruction of cliffside vegetation
and lichen, disturbance of cliff-dwelling animals, litter, water pollution from improper human waste disposal, and the visual blight of chalk marks, pin scars, bolts, rappel slings, and fixed ropes. Many of these impacts can be eliminated or
