"The creators of Crazy Horse's Vision (2000) offer another inspiring American portrait, again focusing on their subject's youth and extraordinary accomplishments. Dubbed Wa-tho-huck (Bright Path) by his Pottowatomie mother, Thorpe attended several Indian schools, struggling with academics but finding his path in sports, and emerging as the 20th century's most widely gifted. . .athlete. Nelson switches to a less-stylized, mystical look for the illustrations, depicting Thorpe growing from lad to burly manhood, chasing down a jackrabbit, standing downcast at lonely or sad moments, dashing past rival runners or football players as he flashes a faint restrained smile. Finished with a career recap, plus a discussion of the long effort to restore Thorpe's confiscated medals. . . .young readers in need of a role model could hardly do better."

Historical note:
The Winsors were one of the first families to settle in Rhode Island. Joshua Winsor arrived in Boston from England in 1637, following Roger Williams to Providence soon after. he had four children. The youngest, Samuel (1644-1705), married Mercy, the youngest daughter of Roger Williams. They had three children: Samuel 2nd, Hannah and Joshua. Samuel the 2nd (1677-1758) later became pastor of the First Baptist Church in Providence. He married Mercy Harding and had nine children: Joseph, Samuel the 3rd, Martha, Mary, Mercy, Hannah, Lydia, Deborah and Freelove. Samuel the 3rd (1722-1803) was also a pastor at the First Baptist Church. However, in 1770 and 1771, a controversy within the church caused him to form a new Baptist church in Johnston, Rhode Island. He married Lydia Olney, and upon her death Anne Winsor, a distant cousin. He had several daughters and sons, including Olney Winsor (1753-1837), Lucy (b.1745), Hannah (m. Nehemiah Hawkins), and Benjamin (1766-1827). Olney married Hope Thurber and had several children, one being his daughter Susan (1789-1879). Lucy Winsor married Joseph Spears. Benjamin married first Zelota Angell, and second Lydia Hawkins (1767-1856) of Smithfield, and had several children, including Serril Winsor (1798-1871).

Cherry Ames, Boarding School Nurse
Book 17, by Helen Wells
Illustrated by Frank Vaughn
"... being nurse to the students ... is sort of a double assignment. It won't be so much a question of medicines and temperatures as, well, being a good psychologist." From Cherry Ames,
Boarding School Nurse
, pp. 16-17 As school nurse at a reconverted chateau, Cherry seeks a perfume formula and the fulfillment of a dead man's cherished dream.
Chapter 1: Lisette After getting off the train at Jamestown, near Hilton, where she will be the school nurse at the Jamestown School for Girls, Cherry shares a cab with a secretive early-arriving scholarship student, Lisette Gauthier Chapter 2: House of Roses Cherry meets the headmistress, Alicia Harrison , an old friend of Cherry's mother . Mrs. Harrison takes her on a brief tour of the old chateau that has been converted into a school, and introduces her to the staff and teachers.
This book marks the return of Helen Wells to the Cherry Ames series. The change in authors is probably the cause of the most jarring continuity problem in the series. The previous volume
