Homework Help: Social Studies: World History: Cuban Revolution
by Jennifer Wu From 1959 to today's date and on, Fidel Castro has served as 'el lider maximo' or, the maximum leader of Cuba. All the changes that have taken place there since 1959, occurred at Fidel's will and under his direction. The person to be blamed and credited for today's state of Cuba, is he, Fidel Castro for it was he that brought communism to Cuba. Beginning in the 1950's the face and shape of Cuba were altered forever by the Cuban revolution. Fidel Castro and his young rebels provided the driving force for change in Cuba. This is the story of that revolution, also known as Cuba's motion of independence. It is also the story of Fidel Castro, for it is impossible to separate the two. Three weeks before the 1952 Cuban presidential elections, Fulgencio Batista Zaldivar Ð a former president Ð was running third in a 3-man-race. Dr. Roberto Agramonte of the Ortodoxos party led in all the polls, followed by Dr. Aurelio Hevia of the Autentico party. At this point, Batista decided to turn a likely political defeat into a sudden stunning victory. He simply seized control of the government by force of arms.

The Revolution in Greenhorn on the Frontier
Set in seventeen seventy-three Pennsylvania, Harry and Sukey's story unfolds against the political climate that formed the foundation for the Revolutionary War. The work depicts the territorial struggles between Pennsylvania and Virginia, presents discussions of British versus American government, and mentions "radicals like Sam Adams and James Otis," and "the great tea boycott." All of these references, along with many others, give a clear sense of the great changes that are about to come and establish Greenhorn on the Frontier as a useful and exciting tool for examining the beliefs, hopes and dreams of the common people as America embarked upon its battle for independence.
The Revolution in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania served a critical role during the Revolutionary War. In the Western part of the state territorial disputes between Pennsylvanians and Virginians raised questions of independence and governance. In the east Philadelphia was serving as the fledgling nation's governmental center; the First Continental Congress met in the city in 1774 and the Declaration of Independence itself was signed there in 1776. George Washington and his troops trained at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania during 1777 and 1778. Additionally, Battles were waged in Brandywine, Germantown, and Whitemarsh. The following links provide more information about Pennsylvania during the Revolution...

Missing chapter in Revolutionary War history
Vets’ graves documented
By JEFF MEYERS, Staff Writer
SCHUYLER FALLS — Beneath a thick cover of poison ivy, barely visible to the untrained eye, lay a grave marker, broken in half and nearly illegible. ADVERTISEMENT It’s surrounded by a waist-high metal railing, setting it apart from the dozens of graves scattered throughout a stand of locust, pine and maple trees at the Old Schuyler Falls Cemetery. The grave marks the final resting spot for John Roberts Jr., a veteran of the Revolutionary War. But even more significantly, Roberts participated in the American takeover of Fort Ticonderoga in May 1775.
