Learn what resources are available through nearby museums and online exhibits . Resource guides and online interactive activities are provided in
http://www.cr.nps.gov/archeology/public/teach.htm
@import url("../css/menuMatt.css"); Where To Start? Two great ways to start learning about how to use archeology as a teaching tool are our online guides, Archeology for Interpreters: A Guide to the Resource and its counterpart, Interpretation for Archeologists: A Guide to Increasing Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities . Created to help National Park Service interpreters and archeologists discuss archeological resources with the public, educators can also use these guides to learn about incorporating archeology into their classroom toolkit.
  • Archeology for Interpreters answers questions about archeological methods, interpretation with archeological data, sensitivity in cultural resource matters, and encouragement of a sense of stewardship in youth. It also provides numerous links to get you started, including recommendations on parks to visit, lesson plans, and publications. Perhaps most importantly, the guide intends to help you feel comfortable using archeology as a multi-disciplinary resource. Interpretation for Archeologists offers methods for encouraging students to find personal meanings in archeological resources. This guide discusses the elements of interpretation that teachers can develop for their classrooms, such as the connections between tangible, intangible, and universal elements that facilitate learning and discussion.

30. The Franklin Institute - Online Museum Educators
Developed and tested by these teachers, known as Online Museum Educators (OMEs),the guides include planning resources, activities, and readyto-use
http://www.fi.edu/educators.html
How can teachers engage students with science issues that are meaningful in their local communities? This question sparked the development of the Community Science Action Guides . During the 2001-2002 year, The Franklin Institute Science Museum and the Science Museum, London invited sixteen teachers to participate in a collaborative exploration of this idea. Working with students at their schools in the US and UK, the teachers each selected a science content area that had local context. Because the participants cross school levels from primary through secondary, the "Community Science Action Guides" offer resources for teachers at any level. The "Guides" are arranged in the gallery from primary up through secondary levels. However, several of the resources in the middle reach across many interest levels. By their nature and mission, science museums believe that access to primary objects can spark meaningful learning. Use of the world wide web has broadened access to museum collections in ways never before imagined. But how can educators make use of online collections and exhibitions? The Online Museum Educators' work has paved the technological way to that answer. During the 2000-2001 year, The Franklin Institute Science Museum and the

38. Maritime History Research On The Internet
the Internet A Guide to Electronic and Print resources in Maritime History So, for example, in the museums page, you ll find many maritime museums
http://ils.unc.edu/maritime/home.shtml
Introduction and Home Page Introduction. Welcome to my web pages on Maritime History on the Internet . I hope to create a site that guides visitors in methods of doing maritime history research on the internet. Throughout these pages, you'll see that I believe you must use print resources and libraries to do comprehensive research, but as resources become available on the internet I hope to highlight them and bring them to your attention here. Summary. The first set of links contains pages focusing on doing research. The second set updates my original pages on maritime sites on the internet. If you have suggestions of sites for me to consider, please send me a note More information... Maritime-related sites on the Internet More information. These pages were completely overhauled in March and April 2000, based on pages that were begun in May 1995. The were launched April 24, 2000, the bicentennial of the Library of Congress. The original pages attempted to bring together many of the maritime resources that existed on the web, but as the number of resources has grown exponentially over the past years, that has become impossible for me to do. Because others do particular resources particularly well, it would be foolish of me to even try to duplicate their work. So, for example, in the Museums page , you'll find many maritime museums listed there, but by no means all. At the top of the page, however, you'll find several links to pages that do attempt to list all maritime museums web sites.
