Working for Willington Since 1995
Our Mission
Our mission is to offer credible and accountable officials who will show leadership and possess distinct moral and ethical standards rooted in the democratic process. We will provide teamwork and communication between town boards, board members, and townspeople to establish responsible, common-sense government.
Who We Are
A Sentinel Party is a Willington political party dedicated to Willington issues. It was formed in 1995 by a group of Republicans, Democrats and unaffiliated voters who wanted more for Willington than just "business as usual". It is a party with a mission, with ideas, with goals, and with people dedicated to achieving them. Members have one common characteristic: good, honest people willing to give up a few evenings of their time to try to do the best they can for the community. This is public service as it was intended. The philosophy of A Sentinel Party is simple: fiscal responsibility and accountability, active citizen involvement, open government, and constant improvement. We believe in the democratic process in which the townspeople and the taxpayers are the legislative body of this town. We believe that teamwork and communication between town boards, board members and the townspeople are necessary ingredients of a successful government. We believe that an active, informed citizenry must be involved with the governing process to ensure an honest and effective government. We recognize that local taxes are a necessary burden and public officials have a responsibility to control them. We believe that town officials are public servants. Finally, we believe in Willington, because we are your neighbors, your friends, your co-workers, your elected officials and WE ARE WORKING FOR WILLINGTON.

NH Dems stand by as vice chairman slurs police chiefs
By: Warren Henderson Last week state Democrat Party Vice Chair Raymond Buckley accused two New Hampshire Chiefs of Police of racism. No proof, no evidence, just slurs against law enforcement officials. Not one prominent Democrat stood up and said Buckley’s smears were out of line. These weren’t comments by or about some out-of-state group or distant figure. Ray Buckley is the second highest-ranking official in New Hampshire’s Democrat Party. He is an official spokesman for New Hampshire Democrats. Since no one disagrees, we must assume this is the official party position. A Message From Chairman Emanuel
Dear Friend, For the past four years, the Republicans have been able to implement their vision without checks or balance. And time and time again, they have led this country with misguided priorities and have failed to put American families first. I have personally committed to Nancy Pelosi to recruit 50,000 Americans to join our Campaign for Change. As Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, I am launching this project as a joint effort by the DCCC and Americans to bring about a new vision and new direction for our country. The DCCC has already started with hard-hitting campaign ads and accelerated candidate recruitment. But we must build the most crucial resource of any campaign: committed Americans who will take our national Democratic movement into their local communities. I hope you'll take the first step and join us and thousands of your fellow Americans.

APP POLITICAL PARTIES By the 1790s, different views of the new country's proper course had already developed, and those who held these opposing views tried to win support for their cause by banding together. The followers of Alexander Hamilton called themselves Federalists; they favored a strong central government that would support the interests of commerce and industry. The followers of Thomas Jefferson called themselves Democratic-Republicans; they preferred a decentralized agrarian republic in which the federal government had limited power. By 1828, the Federalists had disappeared as an organization, replaced by the Whigs, brought to life in opposition to the election that year of President Andrew Jackson. The Democratic-Republicans became Democrats, and the two-party system, still in existence today, was born. New Federalist Papers: Essays in Defense of the Constitution The Media RETURN TO

Jack and George's Bogus Adventure
Today's Washington Post has an interesting piece on Washington mega-lobbyist, Jack Abramoff. The Post reported that, Bush's nominee to be Deputy Attorney General, Timothy E. Flanigan, testified to the Senate Justice Committee that when he worked at Tyco he had overseen Abramoff's lobbying for the firm. We have already covered the ridiculousness of nominating a former Abramoff associate from a company that has been involved in corporate accounting scandals to a top Justice Department post. Instead there is a more important part of the Post's piece focused on Flanigan's testimony Flanigan told the committee that Abramoff repeatedly told Tyco that he was in contact with White House Deputy Chief of Staff, Karl Rove on behalf of Tyco's interests. Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff bragged two years ago that he was in contact with White House political aide Karl Rove on behalf of a large, Bermuda-based corporation that wanted to avoid incurring some taxes and continue receiving federal contracts, according to a written statement by President Bush's nominee to be deputy attorney general. Timothy E. Flanigan, general counsel for conglomerate Tyco International Ltd., said in a statement to the Senate Judiciary Committee last week that Abramoff's lobbying firm initially boasted that Abramoff could help Tyco fend off a special liability tax because he "had good relationships with members of Congress," including House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.).

That resolution passed with a 22-1 vote and 12 abstentions in an organisation that usually works on the basis of consensus and unanimity, underlining the divisions amongst countries about how to treat the Iranian nuclear programme. Following my earlier story this summer on this topic (also front paged on dKos), here's a new attempt to explain the elaborate diplomatic games behind this story.
