166. Medieval Reproductions
Historically accurate reproductions of medieval arms, armour, and artwork, Roman to renaissance; Period costumes, accessories, furniture, architectural embellishments. On line catalog.
http://www.medievalrepro.com
t Medieval Reproductions, we strive to provide the highest quality in our products. We produce carefully researched, historically accurate reproductions of medieval arms, armour, and artwork. Our scope is not just medieval, however, we have created pieces ranging from Roman to Renaissance. We also produce period costumes, accessories, Medieval and Renaissance tapestries, and furniture, as well as architectural embellishments. We have twenty-five years of experience producing arms and armour, and have provided pieces for discerning clients such as the Glenbow Museum (Calgary), the Royal Ontario Museum (Toronto), the Canadian War Museum (Ottawa),and the Higgins Armory Museum (Worcester, Mass.). We have also provided rental items for television, film and magazine. If you have a specific need, we will be happy to custom make any piece to meet that need. ll of the prices given for our helmets in our on-line catalogue are for constructed versions (helmets made from two pieces welded together), however, we offer helmets raised from a single piece. Please contact us for price information on raised helmets. All of our other armour components are also raised (such as breasplates, couters, poleyns, etc.) at the prices indicated in the on-line catalogue. Raising is a technique that leaves the metal the same thickness at the apex of the piece. Many modern armourers use a method called dishing, which stretches the metal, and leaves it thinner at the highest point. Raising is a more historically accurate method of armour-making.

169. DUFAY
Outline of his life and works including developments and innovations that moved him from a medieval to a renaissance style. Also links to related renaissance topics.
http://www.yesnet.yk.ca/schools/projects/renaissance/dufay.html
GUILLAUME DUFAY
Educator of music
INTRODUCTION
Guillaume Dufay was a famous Renaissance composer.

BACKGROUND
Dufay was born in Cambrai, France, in the year of 1399 and died in 1474. He spent the majority of his career in Cambria. He joined a choir with fifteen to twenty other members, originally. As the years passed, members, including Dufay, moved to other choirs for money and other such reasons. Guillaume Dufay was a chief figure of music schools because of his completion of education as a choir master, as well as being very well-educated in most aspects of music.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Dufay's large musical output contained masterpieces of every genre, or style and type of music. Some types of his were:
  • dramatic cycles
  • cyclic masses
  • isorhythmic motets
  • simply ornamented hymns

Some of Dufay's main changes in music were:
  • paths toward modern day harmonies
  • use of third intervals
  • new structure of staffs

He introduced harmonies which then brought out the melody in his works Dufay made the rules and imitations for the cannon. The cannon is a song or melody with two or more parts. The first group plays the melody, then the second group repeats it while the first plays a new melody or harmony, followed by the second group and the song continues in this fashion.
Guillaume Dufay was the first composer to use a folk song in mass. A mass is a group of songs sung to honour God in the Roman Catholic Church.

Ginger's Favorite Links Tights are an important part of Renaissance-era costuming for both men and women. And the place to come for tights of all colors is Faire Pair Tights . Here you will find basic cotton tights for everyday wear as well as the crushed and liquid velvets that are so popular with the upper classes. And now introducing Lux Velvets, which are a little kinder to the budget! Faire Pair tights are comfortable and made to fit a wide range of body sizes and shapes. The stretch material allows the tights to shape themselves to you while providing ease of movement without binding. A bit of extra length assures even the longest legs of a good fit. Tights are not just something to wear as part of a costume. Faire Pair tights can be worn at home, at work or at play. Cotton and nylon tights are excellent for runners, cyclists or just working out at the gym. Cottons and velvets are remarkably comfortable for equestrians (several of Ginger's Junkies won't ride in anything else). Add a long shirt or a big sweater to a pair of velvet tights and you have a casually elegant look. Who is The Tights Goddess?

Selections from the Database: Perge, Elaiussa-Sebaste, Rome, Pydnae, Troia, Canosa di Puglia, Letoon, Vatican Museums, Side and Naples This suite of pages, which is under development, is the jumping-off point for an experimental series of images of classical sculpture and architecture. There are currently 945 records in this first group of pages, set out with 35 records per page: (b) by site, with thumbnail images; (b) by site, without thumbnail images; (b) by type of object, with thumbnail images; (b) by type of object, without thumbnail images; . The datarecords underlying the scheme are the same, with these choices simply dicing the material in different ways. You might also want to look at the full database, which contains 3,281 records set out with 50 records per page: (b) by site, with thumbnail images; (b) or by site, without thumbnail images; - but be warned that this is very messy indeed, and needs a lot of work. This complete database will continue to grow, and will eventually be reworked into all the above categories. The setup is experimental because it tests the viability of the laserdisk as a high-capacity (36,000 frames per platter side) storage device, clearly in competition with a computer hard disk. The beauty of the laserdisk (apart from its archival quality) is that it orders the images in a fixed series, and is accessible to the computer in under .5 seconds.
