Neumaier will be the principal speaker at the annual observance of Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, at 7 p.m. April 28 at Middletown's Temple Sinai. As a native of Frankfurt, Germany, he was eyewitness to the Kristallnacht pogrom Nov. 9-10, 1938, when the Nazi regime murdered many innocent Jewish citizens, sent others to concentration camps and destroyed synagogues, homes and businesses of fellow Jews. The pogrom is viewed by many historians as the foreshadowing of the Holocaust. Neumaier's mother, a Viennese-born opera singer, was a victim of the Holocaust. In recent months, Neumaier has helped create an exhibit about his mother titled "A Voice Silenced – Leonore Schwarz Neumaier." In a few weeks, it will open in Germany at the Borne Gallery of the State Jewish Museum of Frankfurt. Neumaier's talk at Temple Sinai will include memories of his mother and the 1938 pogrom.

Inclusion: A key question in this new millennium is, “How do we live with one another?” Inclusion is about learning to live with one another. Inclusion means being with . It means affiliation, combination, enclosure, involvement, surrounding. Inclusion means welcome. It means inviting parents, students, and community members to be part of the community. Inclusion means inviting those who are left out, in any way, to help us to re-define our vision of an authentic community that encourages every person to participate to their full capacity as partners and as members.

About Memorial Day
Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day. It is a day of remembrance for those who have died in the service of our nation. Waterloo N.Y. was officially declared the birthplace of Memorial Day by President Lyndon Johnson in May 1966, but it's difficult to prove the origins of the day. There is also evidence that a women's group in the South decorated graves before the end of the Civil War. In either case, Memorial Day has had numerous starts due to the human need to honor the dead. Though some people think it's a day to honor any and all dead, Memorial Day is intended to honor those who have given their all in service to our country.

Parents' Auxiliary Craft and Bake Sale: Nov 25
The annual Christmas craft and bake sale took place Thursday evening and Friday during the day. It turned out to be an excellent affair with a wide variety of crafts, baked goods, gifts and Christmas flowers and centerpieces. The parents, who were at the school for parent/teacher interviews also appreciated the ability to do a little Christmas shopping without having to brave downtown parking and pushy salespeople.
Hong Kong International Dinner: Nov 22
Twenty-two St. Margaret's boarders put on a wonderful presentation of life in the city of Hong Kong. Wearing beautiful, handmade shirts the girls used a news programme as their base and put on a series of performances and humorous skits. It was an enjoyable evening of music, games and entertainment.
Click here for more photos of the Hong Kong Dinner.

New Addition to the Campus: Nov 19
There's a new addition to the St. Margaret's campus that has been seen wandering the back fields with a little fawn, which has been born a little out of season. The fawn sprinted into the forest at the first sign of the camera, but its dad stuck around to have its photo taken.
Festival of Trees: Nov 16
Each year St. Margaret's School participates in the Festival of Trees, a charitable event supporting BC Children's Hospital. The theme of this year's tree was "The Junior School". Students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 made 448 angels and hearts - one for each member of the school.

Yom HaShoah - Holocaust Remembrance Day
Holocaust Memorial Day, is a relatively recent addition to the Jewish calendar. Its observances are still evolving, with very different approaches taken and little agreement on the best way to mark the day.
In Israel, Yom HaShoah, is an official holiday. In the Diaspora, more Jews have taken to observing this memorial day, as a way of deepening their understanding and connection to the tragedy.
Yom HaShoah V'HaGevurah: Israel
Yom HaShoah begins in the evening, according to the Jewish calendar. Throughout Israel, all places of entertainment are closed, except those featuring special programs on the Holocaust. In the evening a siren is sounded throughout the country, and all stand for two minutes of silence to reflect upon the tragedy.
Yad Vashem, the national organization for Holocaust research and education, hosts programs each year. Generally schools present special programs for the students on the Holocaust and related issues. Ceremonies usually feature the lighting of memorial candles, and a presentation by a survivor. Sometimes memorial prayers are recited, and poems, writing, and other artwork of victims of the Holocaust are displayed. Often names of victims are read aloud, along with programs on the destroyed Jewish communities of the Holocaust.
